Studies show time and time again that one of the healthiest of all cooking methods is steaming. Steaming helps retain valuable vitamins and nutrients in food, without all the added fat. Now steaming has never been easier, or more fun. Made from 100-percent pure premium silcone, a product found in nature, the Orka Steam Cooker is safe and easy to use. Add your favorite meat, poultry or fish, vegetables and seasoning. Heat in the microwave or in the oven; food cooks without added fats, steaming in its own juices. Meat remains tender, fish cooks without drying out and vitamins and minerals are preserved. The Orka Steam Cooker is heat safe to 430-degrees fahrenheit and is dishwasher safe. It features rigid, easy to grip handles, a non-stick and stain-resistant surface and as an added feature, a recipe booklet is included.

( your choice, Salmon, etc...). Other easy meals ... again throw in your choice of veg and a Gardenburger on top. Saves me money at work and makes dinner fast and easy. I bought 2 of these so I can make one for me and one for hubby. Love these!
What I use this steamer for may be slightly different than most. My cooking is more full flavored and I don't use Microwave for a complete course. Other than the simple sides other reviewers already mentioned (such as sliced potato, etc), I use this more to shorten cooking time. For example, for glazed onion, carrots, etc, I would steam them in the Okra steamer first for 3 minutes, drain, then continue sauteing in the pan on stove top until caramelized. I estimated a saving of roughly 20-30 minutes depending on the type of cooking. I also roughly cube potato and steam in the Okra before boiling in water. Mashed potato made this way tastes the same as my old ways, but faster.
Other than the time I saved on the dishes, my cooking also generates much less heat. That is the main reason why I bought this Okra. Now dinner at summertime is much more enjoyable.
I cook for one. And these steamers have changed the way I cook. I have a couple and I use at least one every day, I usually use both to cook my dinner.
The instructions and menus supplied with the steamer are not very detailed. The is a GREAT product and the manufacturer needs to use the written materials included with the steamers to market the product.
These silcon steamers are the best thing that ever happened to the microwave,IMHO. That is what has held the microwave back, the nature of the cookware. One needs exceptional cookware to cook tasty meals on one's stovetop and so it is with the microwave.
You can learn to be very precise and consistent with how you cook using these steamers. The process takes much less time, much less clean up, and they are very, very constistent.
Here are some tips that I can offer from using this cookware for over six months.
The MOST important thing is carefully cutting your vegetables. The cooking time used is SO short that cutting the vegetables properly is crucial.
Wedging or "chunking your vegetables" does allow these steamers to do their best work.
Here are a couple of examples. With these steamers one can make the best parslied potatoes that you have EVER eaten. You need the small red "b" sized potatoes. You need to slice them, not wedge them, 1/4 in slices or less. I fill my twenty oz with these slices and to that I add one quarter of a "sweet" medium onion finely diced, a few cloves of minced fresh garlic, a little salt and pepper, and some finely chopped fresh parsley. You need very LITTLE water with these steamers. I would guess no more than four ounces if that. Cook on high in your microwave for four minutes. I would let that sit for at least five minutes as I usually wait much longer before serving. Drain off the water and plate, and you have the "sweetest" potatoes imaginable. And you have NO need for butter, oil, or any other kind of fat.
Another way to use the steamers. I like to buy the frozen chicken breasts which are NOT individually quick frozen. I like the ones that are frozen and sealed individually. Good chicken in the microwave will probably never be possible. After I have unthawed my chicken in the fridge overnight and pre-heated my oven to 350 degrees, I take the chicken breast and place it in them in the steamer with the unthawed liquid. To this, I add a some fresh garlic, some Italian spices, some salt and pepper, and just a couple of more ounces of water. I place on the lid and cook in the oven for 40 minutes. The steamer is somewhat sealed and cooks the chicken perfectly. It is always juicy and tender and never dry. In a skillet I usually very quickly prepare a Marsala or Picatta sauce to put over the chicken and some pasta.
I could go on and on about I have used these steamers.
Fish and salmon are cooked very easily and very well in about three minutes using the steamers and the microwave.
But these steamers are incredible. They take less time if used in the microwave for cooking either fresh or frozen vegetables.
They are easy to clean in or out of the diswasher and take up little space to store. One reviewer mentioned that if staining bothers you that you should get the steamers black in color. I would have to agree as my colored steamers have stained a bit.
In my view these steamers are only limited by one's imagination.
