A MATCH MADE IN DUTY is a Beauty and the Beast type inspired story about James Brayden, the Earl of Exmoor, who agrees to marry Miss Sophie Wilkinson as a favor to her dying brother. But he never expects that a match made in duty would be the cure for his broken and battle-scarred heart. Because as James saves Sophie from a bleak and dismal future, she ends up saving him too - body, soul, and everything in between...
This is book 1 of "The Braydens" and was my first experience with Meara Platt's writing. I picked this novella up after pre-ordering EARL OF WESTCLIFF which is book 2 and also the second in the multi-author "Wicked Earls' Club" series. I have to say I was really impressed with this story which may be short, but was well written and utterly engaging. I completely adored Sophie who had a backbone of steel and was so sweet too. She was outspoken and blunt, but never cruel or deceitful, and just had a heart of gold. I also liked James who was very kind and generous for the most part. And though there are times he acts like a jerk, he definitely steps it up and proves his worth at the end. I truly enjoyed watching these two fall in love and thought their story was lovely and romantic. Even the sex scene (which occurs after marriage) was done with tenderness and care.
Overall I'm very pleased to have not only read this beautiful love story, but to have found a new (to me) author. James was really the only slight flaw in what was otherwise a great read. It had everything I look for, including a compelling plot and well drawn characters. I'm already looking forward to more by Ms. Platt and think I'll check out her "Farthingale" series, since a couple of those family members make appearances here =)
Meats writes about the wonderful future that all who get married should strive toward until "death do us part."
I loved your story, it was delightful! I love that it was not drawn out, it makes it so much livelier! The love scenes were perfect, not TMI! I will be reading more of your stories! Thank You!
