Good grief, ONE WEEK BEFORE! Why did Noah need the ultimatum to be only one freaking week from the moment they MET? Why was that at all relevant?? Why not take the time to actually get to know this woman who is the only chance you will ever have at happiness instead of ruining any chance you had at that by threatening her with her most prized possession? Really dude, could you have found a more wrong way to go about this? Really??? I think NOT!!
Why are you both proclaiming "I love you" when you don't even know each other? 7 freaking days is not enough time to be assuring yourselves of that statement. It's a pretty weighty one to be making guys. Just say "I'm obviously incredibly horny for you" and let that be enough FOR NOW. Let love be a learning and discovering experience. It's not worth it if you don't search for it first.
Not sure that I wish to continue with this trilogy. It pissed me off too much and sounds like this might be a progressing trend with two other completely different couples (also related to Noah?). Not sure that I can take anymore male douchery.
This story has a great premise and the bones of some interesting characters. Problem is that the author doesn't take the time to develop either. The Amazon listing says it's 39 pages, but the font has to be twice the standard 12-point, taking the length down to about 19 pages. Maybe. But 19 pages could be enough if Scott gave us a little more depth. Even a short story needs a little meat...a respectable beginning, middle and end. There's no middle to this one. We never really know what billionaire Noah does that makes him so wealthy. Nor do we get to spend time watching Grace work either as a vet or at her sanctuary. The relationship develops through phone conversations that we never get to hear.
What we do get is a couple of hot sex sessions and a lot of telling versus showing.
I will say that the other two stories in the Changeling Encounters series are more developed, so maybe Scott was finding her footing here. Both THE DANGERS OF ADOPTING A WEREWOLF and ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS A WEREWOLF are worth a look. I hope Scott goes back and reworks this one, because the idea has plenty of potential.
Grace is uncomfortable in her heals and dress schmoozing with the attendees, but knows that is necessary for her to keep her animal sanctuary open, but when her biggest sponsor locks her in his gaze and asks for a private moment with her and they end up in a bathroom with the lock thrown, she is all but prepared for the ultimatum him leaves with her....Mate with him or he pulls his funds for her sanctuary.
Grace wants her sanctuary, but is she willing to kowtow to Noah and give up her independence too?
Noah Lancaster is a wolf used to getting what he wants, so how is it that he is at a fundraising gala when he despises them! Things get even better when he finds his mate there.
Grace Martin is a scientist and a very level headed veterinarian. She can't believe what happens when she meets her sanctuary's biggest supporter and what results from that meeting!
Will she listen to the barbaric male? Is everything as it appears? Is he for real or just demented? Read on and find out.
I knew going into this that with 39 pages it would be a short read. The problem is that the story seemed very rushed, and it was hard feeling any kind of connection between the hero and heroine because there was no build-up or back story. Especially when the story starts out with an oral sex scene between them, in a bathroom, at a special function. Oh, and they're strangers. Granted, the 300 year old hero had finally found his mate, and it's understandable he's going crazy with lust for her. But she has no idea she's his mate, or what he is, only that she's deeply drawn to him, and submits to the sexual encounter.
I'm giving it four stars because it's well written, the sex scenes are hot, and in spite of being rushed, I still enjoyed the story. I think the author owes it to the hero and heroine to go back in and add a little more depth to it, though.
