I love books that show how different school subjects work together as one. Doubtless, there are many people who enjoy cooking but not math or math but not woodworking or those who enjoy a hands on approach like: making clay into pottery but not sitting down with a pencil and paper doing abstract problems. This book shows how all these things need the other to work the way they should. You might be able to make a cake but if you want to make the best cake from scratch you need to pay attention to how much of each ingredient to add and know why. You also need to know when to add the ingredients and how to combine them for the best result. When you see how much we use math in these other ways it makes clear that as you embrace math as part of the art of creating something, not only can it take away a fear or dislike of math but it can also help you to do the things you love to do better... and who knows, it might give you, not only a better perspective of math but a love of it as a foundation on which creative skills are built upon.

I liked the approach- practical. I'd recommend to elementary age students who are curious and can handle the materials. Good examples of measurement, per cent, ratios, proportions, circle geometry, and more.
