Pros: The stickers! The instant reward for a finished page is very nice.
Learning wise, very easy to follow, and easy progression.
Most of the time they can read the instructions and get it with minimal help.
The cons: There are some pages that are hard... out of know where, weirdly hard. For instance, there is a subtraction table that must be filled in. There are some others also, but that is the one that comes to mind. A natural progression...doing really well...then BAM! What is this? Also there were some things that needed more explanation, but that is not really a con so much as a fact...a book can not teach all by itself. We did, and will continue to need extra lessons. (for instance, understanding ones and tens places, time and money).
Over all, I like these books a lot and I plan on using them for at least the next few years. They are a easy way to work our way though math at their own pace (each kid has a book, they need to do at least x amount of pages...but sometimes they do more). It makes it easy to track progress while targeting areas where they need extra help.
The front of the book has a list of skills called a 'progress chart' with star stickers. As your child masters each skill, you put a sticker on the chart. The chart will definitely help parents as they mark off standardized skills required by their state guidelines.
The back of the book has an answer guide and parent section. Unlike Spectrum math that simply lists the answers and not the problems, this book shows the whole page properly filled out. It makes grading a snap.
The paper is very heavy weight. The higher quality is great for those who write in their workbooks. It will stand up to erasing and changing answers if needed.
This book is geared to parents and not teachers. It is meant for the student to actually write in the book. Not meant to be reproduced as many teacher oriented materials are.
Not a bad product, just not great in my opinion.
