~The Rebecca Review
If you want your child to be good at math, you should additionally find some fun math programs. My friend referred me to a Houston community web site [...] It provides math exercises every week with rankings to keep kids interested. In the past my son only played games on the Internet. Now he solves math problems online every week. I love it.
The pros: This book is lengthy and covers a lot of material, but individual assignments are very long-- much too long for a second grader or any child who doesn't really take to math. I also purchased a second grade brainquest book along with this book. That book has several math sections, each lesson is relatively short, and brainquest does a great job of explaining concepts. I used the brainquest book to bring my son up to speed on several of the concepts that he was behind in, and use this workbook and the math website beestar.com for additional practice.
All in all, I don't think this is a good book for TEACHING math, but is a great additional resource for practicing math.

Use this and move on to 4th grade after. You can skip 3rd grade completely as it seems redundant in terms of new topics covered between 2nd and 4th grade.Published 5 months ago by KB
