From the Contributor
I have tutored many, many people in Math through Calculus, and I have found that if you start off with the basics and take things one step at a time - anyone can learn complex Math topics. This DVD has literally hundreds of example problems ranging in all levels of complexity. Each problem is broken down into bite-sized-chunks so that no one gets lost. This DVD will take *anyone* with no prior exposure to Algebra and raise their scores significantly!See all Editorial Reviews

Substantively, the material is well presented and Jason walks you through step-by-step in how to do the problems. In each problem he shows every step, does not skip anything no matter how easy or apparent it might be and as a result you really come away knowing the process of how to tackle the problems. There are a couple instances where he makes a mistake in the math. In his later videos when he makes mistakes he either corrects it in post-production or as he works out the problems. In this one if he does not catch it, it bleeds through to the end of the solution. Depending on your level you may catch those. That is another reason you may want to go with the updated version.
I rate most of Jason's material 5 star, but dropped this one down because of the rough audio, video and the mistakes that go through uncorrected. Like one other reviewer said, if you do get this one, don't let it sour you on the others, because the overall production quality goes way up, and Jason's teaching style (provided you can learn by watching a recorded lecture) is excellent. I have made it through the entire calculus sequence at my school with a 4.0 average due in large part to using Jason's DVDs as supplements. While this will not teach you an entire pre-algebra or intermediate algebra course, it will teach you all the key concepts that you will need when you get to the material not covered on the DVD.
I had a critical, mean, hateful teacher who loved humiliating students in junior high for pre algebra & I failed but was pushed through, took remedial math in high school which consisted of us all just sitting there doing nothing while the 'teacher' listened to the radio. Graduated & was convinced I was too dumb to understand math. I was wrong. I did not stand a chance with the so-called 'teachers' I had.
I'd recommend Math Tutor DVD's for anyone, any age. They have toddler through Calculus math & Chemistry, Physics, Statistics & Engineering Circuits.
Think of friends & family going back to college, high school graduates going onto college or even high school graduates who think they can't go to college because they've been lead to believe they can't understand math, chemistry or physics. Anyone can understand what they need to if they have the right teacher. Math Tutor DVD's are the right teaching tool. If I can do it anyone can. Be blessed!
