Maybe you like the idea of this book but you are wondering, does it live up to the promise, will you actually read much of it, is it just too big? The answers are yes, probably yes, and no.
I've browsed maybe half of the chapters. Each one is clear, easy to skim through, with a lot to dig into if you want. So far I've found not one "book report" just summarizing recent work. I've found fascinating helpful interpretations of subjects I don't know -- and challenging positions on subjects that I have my own view of.
Of course you can find fault. The book leans more to applied math than I'd like. And what about functional analysis?
Overall, I am stunned to think I wavered on buying this. I almost passed it up. It would have been a big mistake.

I just purchased it a few days back and I should say, boy, did I not get intimidated by the size of the book. But, I was very happy that it lived up to my expectations of a guide book from which I could choose some topic to further work on. I should say, that if you are interested after going through the topics in the preview of the book, just go ahead and buy it. Don’t cry over the lost opportunity of gaining useful knowledge.

it is a big book.

I glanced this book when I was in library at university, so I like it and still very mathematical informative.

if you want a book that give you a brief introduction of most advanced topics in mathematics and its related field such as computer science and physics, there is no doubt that this book is for you. Nevertheless, professionals can get this book in order to master their topic in a very brief way.
