Switch to a Beautiful and Wireless Aluminium Keyboard--Black
Taking design cues from Apple’s iconic aluminum keyboards, the Matias Wireless Aluminum Keyboard fills a few gaps that Apple chose not to pursue. For starters, we offer it in 4 gorgeous colors — Silver, Gold, Space Gray, and Rose Gold. Owners of the ultralight, ultrathin, Apple MacBook can now have a Bluetooth wireless keyboard that matches its look and color and feels great to type on. Also, its fine-tuned ability permits practical and efficient use with a number pad included.
Mac-friendly function keys.
- Just like an Apple keyboard, the function keys let you control screen brightness, volume, iTunes, and more.
- There’s even an Fn key, that lets you momentarily change the function keys back to their traditional duties, when you need them.
Rechargeable 1-year battery life. No expense was spared to make this the best Bluetooth keyboard possible. That includes putting a much bigger rechargeable battery in it than we had to — 1,600 mAh.That’s 5x to 12x bigger than what’s inside most other wireless keyboards; big enough to last a year, on a single charge.
Stays on. Stays connected.
- Other wireless keyboards will often power down and disconnect to conserve battery life — leaving you waiting, each time they reconnect.

The build quality is on par with Apple. The base is plastic as opposed to Apples all aluminum design but you never see that so I don't care. I also like that you can choose a color unlike the Apple keyboard. I bought the Space Gray and it fits nicely next to my 2013 Mac Pro and matches my Space Gray iPhone perfectly. I also wanted black keys because the white ones that Apple insists on putting on their keyboards look like crap after a few weeks of use.
Apple claims 2 months of battery time with their keyboard but this Matias one claims 1 year! ONE YEAR! I haven't had the opportunity to see if that statement is true but I will be excited if I have to dig out my USB cable once a year for a charge.
If you're used to Apple products quality and sexiness you won't be dissatisfied with this keyboard, it is fantastic. The ability to pair it with your Mac, iPhone and iPad with the push of a button is a fantastic added bonus. If you want some bling be sure to check out the back-lit version of this keyboard. I had no use for it so I decided to save some money but it looks awesome.
Thanks Matias! Love your boards.
UPDATE: I should point out that the support from Matias has been very good as they are sincerely interested in wanting to keep me happy. They have provided a number of options including being able to return the keyboard directly to them for a full refund of the price paid and reimbursement for return shipping. Not only have I been able to exchange emails with a support person, but I've also been contacted by phone.
The layout and size of the Matias Keyboard is essentially the same as the wired Apple keyboard, except that function keys F16 – F19 are replaced with four individually-programmable Bluetooth pairing keys. These keys allow you to pair your Matias Keyboard with up to four different computers. I’ve found that this works well for at least two computers; I’ve not had the opportunity to try the additional two. But pairing was easy. Compared with the Apple Magic Keyboard, the letter and number keys are the same size and at the same spacing. The Delete, Return, Shift, Command, Option and Control keys are a bit longer on the Matias Keyboard, but nonetheless in keeping with the size and location of the keys on the wired Apple Keyboard.
When typing, you may find that the Matias keys are a mite firmer than the Apple keys and definitely have a longer key travel distance. It does not take much time to get used to this, and some users may prefer it. The only criticism I have of the key feel is that the Matias keys are a tiny bit “looser” than the Apple keys. That is, if you hold a key between your fingers and move it back and forth, the Matias keys have a *tiny* bit more play than the Apple keys. Another difference is that the angle of the Matias keyboard is slightly greater than the Apple keyboard. As an old touch typist, I prefer this greater angle. It does stand in aesthetic contrast to the angle of the Apple Magic Touchpad, but that’s a first world problem. And I love once again having a numeric keypad and (!) a back-delete button.
The Matias Keyboard has a permanent, rechargeable internal battery and the instruction pamphlet says that one five-hour charge should last an entire year. That will be nice if it holds true, but a slightly bothersome point is that in the Bluetooth drop-down menu in the menu bar, the entry for the keyboard does not show battery level. This is in contrast to the menu item for the Apple Magic Keyboard and is an opportunity for improvement by Matias. Charging is accomplished with a mini-USB cable instead of a Lightning cable.
Fit and finish are excellent. My unit is aluminum colored, although you can order yours in four different colors, including a Space Gray. The style of this keyboard looks essentially like that of the Apple and it is right at home sitting next to my MacBook Pro.
So far, this seems to be a very good choice for me, and I recommend it to others. If any issues pop up, I’ll update this review.
