Nicky Charles does well developing the characters in this book. Yes, there can be a little much angst, but consider the source-two people thrown into a situation such as this would have issues in the best of circumstances. There is mild (well done) erotica, a mystery to be solved, wolves to be tamed...in other words, a little bit of everything! Considering the cost of this book, i.e. FREE!, what have you got to lose by reading it? I, for one, plan on seeking out more of Nicky Charles' writing.
The Mating which is Kane and Elise's story. I'm just lukewarm over. Their story for me as far as the romance goes both as people an Lycan is a very pale in comparison to the other two books in the series. Granted as the blurb says they become mated by an arranged marriage. However, even as the story progresses it wasn't a well defined storyline.
As with the other two books their is a Lycan based intrigue to the story however it is my opinion that both Kane and Elise come off as rather gullible. That really didn't help either of their characters be more interesting.
I wouldn't go as far as to say this is a bad book, it's just not remarkable. There is one scene I think wasn't necessary and, might have improved it if it wasn't there. Had I read The Mating first; I don't know if I would have continued to read or not. Seeing as I already have The Finding, I will see how it goes hopefully the series better again.
Sensitive Readers Warning : This book contains a scene that blurs the line between consensual and non-consensual sex.
I say blurs because it deals with a female Lycan in heat. Even the male Lycan questions if he hasn't actually committed rape and has a lot of self-loathing. The female Lycan has a different outlook. This could be triggering for some readers.
Nikki says thank you for taking the time to read my book please leave a comment on the site where u downloaded this book. this book is free feedback is only payment I request if you feel a great need to spend your money please consider making a donation to your local animal shelter or food bank. So with that it's my great pleasure to review this book however it's not to be too detailed because I'm not good with words. I really loved the romance and the sense of connection you feel developing between the two main characters kane and Elise I read this book in a day and a half and I only stopped to sleep and eat and even then I ate well I read so it's a very good book I would highly recommend it it's well worth the five stars normally book That don't cost anything are really short and leave u going well that was a waste of time. or they hook u and then for each for each subsequent book it goes up in price a dollar each book that's not the case from this author and I'm very grateful I'm quite grateful that she decided to give this book away for free otherwise I probably would've passed since I am unfortunately one of those people that can benefit from the food bank I don't have much money to be spending on Kindle books so I get them for free most of them are disappointing their short and their quick and are left going but wasn't enough I'm looking for more this one left me wanting more and I've downloaded all the rest of books in the series hopefully will too
It's soul crushing and depressing as hell because the message seems to be "give up your love and dreams for patriarchal society because a woman is only as good as her capacity to receive dick". Seriously.
It opens with a rape scene, which the author tries to pass off as some smoldering, erotic experience but it's so completely uncomfortable my boyfriend actually asked what was wrong due to the wincing and random exclamations of "stab them in the penis".
This fails as paranormal romance, it fails as erotica. Keep moving.
