Top Customer Reviews
The main character here, Gerry Porter, is a retired high school teacher and grandmother to Maddie, a precocious and quite brilliant 11-year-old (she seems to stay exactly that age in this series). In this book, which leads up to the marriage of Gerry and Henry Baker, there is a murder at the B&B where the wedding is to take place, and there are reasons for Gerry to investigate. The author writes very well, and the plot unfolds nicely, although readers who are looking for suspense might be slightly disappointed. There isn't a great deal of that.
There are plenty of suspects, and Gerry (and Maddie) have many ideas about how to investigate. In my own view, they go a bit far this time and cross into territory that really belongs to the police, but that pales in comparison to the tendency for the main characters to be one-dimensional in this series. I prefer the Sophie Knowles series with the author writing as Ada Madison. There is much more depth there, in my opinion.
