Let me caveat this, with the suggested ages for this product are 7 to 11 years old.
The first day they opened this and started playing, there was nothing but laughter and enjoyment for more than two hours for all three who sat down to play this. They all got along (often a problem in competitive board games) and despite the fact that they didn't bother to keep score, they really liked it. We have a fairly big foyer for them to set this up, and without parental supervision or interaction, they played peacefully and contently for a long time.
And they had no problems going back to the game either. So all-and-all, for the ages posted on the box, this is a perfect game. Not sure how educational it is, but it works on hand-eye coordination and I'd say it's one of the better team-building games that we own. Certainly a great investment for the $18 price tag.
While I don't have any negatives about this delightful game, the first thing that my wife said when she opened it was "Did you buy Beer Pong for the kids?" Admittedly this product can definitely be used for other purposes... but again - it was surprisingly amusing for the simplicity.
Next day I pulled it out for my grandkids ages 9, 11 and 13. We all had so much fun!
I plan to take this with me on a 'girls day out' trip to a cabin. Most of the girls are in their thirties, and I'm sure they will incorporate a drinking game out of it.
I've ordered another one to give as a hostess gift.
The game itself is pretty simple, you bounce the balls and try to land them in a design in the container. It is more difficult than you'd expect! We had a house rule that you could bounce it until it made it in somewhere because there were plenty of misses!
It is pretty noisy as the balls bounce all over the dining room, but if your whole family is playing together than it won't annoy everyone else in the house I guess! We ranged from adults down to barely 7 and skill level didn't seem to matter TOO much.
My kids played later on the carpet instead of our dinner table and that made it easier (and quieter!) for them since the balls didn't bounce so much.
Overall it was a pretty good gift, and the only negative was that the box is pretty flimsy.
But it's the kind of game that young kids can grasp with just a couple of minutes of demonstration, and then love to play over and over and over again. Some great things about it:
- It's light
- It's easy to get out and clean up/put away again
- It's super easy to understand
- Almost anyone of any age can play it
- Wacky things happen and it makes them laugh every time
- It builds dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- It teaches patience and meticulousness and care
- It's great for teaching visualization, geometry, and strategy
- It literally takes just a few minutes to play a game
As a parent, I absolutely love this game. One of the household favorites. If you have elementary-age kids, it's a must.
