Christian author Lisa J. Lickel has a bachelor’s degree in RECES and history from the University of Wisconsin, which makes her well-placed to research and present her ‘First Children of Farmington’ books. She is active in local and state historical societies and is editor in chief of ‘Creative Wisconsin’, the literary magazine of Wisconsin Writers Association.
The books in this series are based on recorded family stories or history and are about real children and families of different ethnic backgrounds who settle in the mid-1850’s in Farmington, Wisconsin. As early settlers they have to adapt to new ways and learn from and about the local native people. Attention is paid to historical truth and detail.
All the books in this series are to be commended and this one ‘Matthew LaCraft, the Yankee Boy’ is no exception. Suitable for child and adult readers this 30 page book provides illustration for each chapter and has a spread of hidden objects.
This is a delightful and informative teaching aid and worthy of five stars.
Well done Lisa – I look forward to reading more of your works.
