The first thing I did was test the probes in open air for accuracy. My room thermometer said 76 degrees. My instant read said 76.2.
The maverick Thermometer 1 said 82 degrees, thermometer 2 said 82 degrees, and thermometer 3 (the replacement I had purchase before) read 79 degrees. That's pretty bad to be reading over temp by 6 degrees. I let the thermometers sit out for about 10 minutes and they never changed from 82.
-The wireless feature seems to work well
-It seems spill/splash proof (haven't tested this)
-You can track your grill/smoker temperature the same time you track your meat temperature which is nice.
-Poor temperature accuracy (though it's at least consistent)
-The menu interface is not intuitive at all and you'll have to go through the directions thoroughly to figure out how the use it.
-The alarm rings 10 degrees before your set temperature (maybe this is ok for some?) if you re-set the temperature and set the alarm when the re-set temp is within 10 degrees of the current temperature the alarm WILL NOT GO OFF when it does reach that set temp. This is really really stupid.
-The buttons are not super easy to press (at least not on my unit).
-The screen viewing angles are really terrible. You have to look at it at an angle (not directly on) to best view the text.
-I have to sync the units every time I use them. I don't know why it can't remember the last device it was paired with.
*?* - I went for the dual temp feature because I thought I could monitor two different meats at once. This doesn't seem to be the case (though I haven't messed around deeply enough into the difficult menu system to find out for sure). It seems you can only measure one meat and the grill or smoker temperature. If you know how to measure two meats please leave a comment for me here. I have an IQ110 so using the second thermometer for smoker temp is totally pointless.
In the end I chose this unit because I figured it would be good (meh), I had already purchased the replacement probe, and it seemed quite popular as there are many replacement probes for it available. The remote unit that you should have with you is really bad. It's just bad all around. I can't suggest any other thermometer because I don't have experience with any others. I'm not happy with the device but I'll use it and deal with it. The wireless feature really is more handy than I expected.
