However, my major beef is the "wireless" half of this solution has to be re-synced ALL THE TIME. It beeps at you when it loses it's signal. I wanted to sit at my computer, next to a glass door, and monitor my grill (which I could see and was about 30 feet away). Even from this close distance and "line of sight" between the two components, I lost signal about every 5 minutes. I had to get up, go outside, and resync the device. This seriously eroded at the convenience factor of the product, and finally I just turned the remote part off. That said, it seemed to vary greatly depending on where I was in the house. I could get further away from the grill and maintain my sync for longer. I suspect it has to do with interference from my computer and home wireless solution, but show me a house that doesn't have a wireless router (that buys a $50 grill thermometer).
The product also feels cheap and flimsy. With slightly misaligned plastic pieces, ti has that quintessential "made in china" stereotypical feel.
Having a previous wireless thermometer (which dog chewed the tasty probe wire) I had had a good experience. The thermometer seemed accurate and reliable and seemed to correspond to a common thermometer dial probe.
On the first use, all seemed to be normal when I started using the smoker and got the first temperature readings. After about 5-6 hours I got a reading that the meat was at 200 degrees F and the BBQ pit temperature was somewhere around 140 degrees F. Obviously this was not the case. The chickens were fine and turned out fine after another 4 hours or so of smoking. If they had hit 200, I think I would have been dining on "Chicken Brick".
The readings seesawed over the next hours, but by then I was not concerned as I was trusting the old school dial probe type.
My plans are to return and request a refund. I may use another wireless (or wired) thermometer which is rated to stay in the meat, but I don't have plans to ask for a new unit.
Disappointing, because after reading reviews, I thought I might be fortunate to have a winner. Instead, in had a raw wiener.
I have only used the Maverick ET732 three times and it works as advertised.
It was used to monitor the temperature of a smoker and the meat each time it was used.
It is really very helpful to have the ability to set high and low temperature alarms.
The wireless link is easy to set and there is plenty of range for me to have the receiver in any room I choose.
I have been careful when cleaning the probes, to bad they were not manufactured to be water proof.
The probes that come with it are a little on the short side, no more than 3' long. I don't know if they are long enough to monitor a turkey in the oven and place the transmitter on the top of the stove's control panel.
Based off some of the other reviews I went ahead and ordered a set of extra probes, they are 6' long.
Hopefully there will be some longevity to the unit and the probes, right now I am very satisfied.
