Top customer reviews
What's cool about this light is the fact that it's so compact, yet brighter than my cordless Black and Decker LED work light. Not only does it have a hook that you can hang the light, but it has a very strong magnet on the back which gives you even more options to hang the light while you work.
You push the on/off switch once, and it turns on the few LED lights on the end of the unit (I don't think the picture shows it because those few lights are on the bottom of the unit) to use like a regular flashlight. Push the switch again, and that light goes off. Push the switch again and it now turns on the many LED lights on the main side of the unit. Finally push the switch to turn them off. I think it would be better to have a different switch for both functions because I can see how it might get tedious later on. It's not that bad, but just something I noticed.
To change the 3 AAA batteries, you need to unscrew 2 screws on the back. I think that did not need to be necessary in the design, but I guess it's good to know the battery cover will not fall out while in the tool bag.
If I were to change this useful flashlight to make it perfect, I would change the form factor for the plastic to include a loop to which a string could be tied so that someone could fashion a wrist wrap for it, or tie a small hanging rope on to attach it via clip to a backpack or fishing box or something. It currently doesn't have a way to attach a wrist wrap or clip it to anything.
One thing I noticed is that the color spectrum is a bit bluish and lacks green, so grass looks pretty pale when lit by it, but if you are shopping for an under $8 flashlight, it probably doesn't matter to you much.
For high quality rechargeable batteries, search amazon.com for "Eneloop AAA batteries". They are much better than competing rechargeable batteries (I'm sure they have patented the key items that make their rechargeable batteries better, so the competitors won't be catching up this decade.) With Eneloop batteries, running all 24 LEDs seems to run the batteries down in 3-4 hours. Performance will be less with other brands, of course.
I Read many of the reviews and ordered two of these Maxcraft 60191 27-LED Compact Worklights for the trunk and also for the occasional under the hood experience (Check the oil dipstick before I head to work in the early morning hours, possibly in an emergency flat tire change, etc.)
After regluing the magnets that fell out (they were both laying on the trunk floor with the magnets nearby after they fell off the trunks ceiling on the very next day). If you looked at the residue glue on the unit, there couldn't have been more than a pin drop.
That was not biggie, because I always have crazy glue and others on hand for the little fix it jobs.
The biggie was that to me personally, the light coming from these cheapo units is just as dismal and useless for this purpose as is the tiny bulb in the trunk. Two of them and I still needed my flashlight to find anything in my trunk bag, etc. If your counting on these for your car to change a flat, good luck. I will say a prayer for you!
The projection of the the already pitiful light output on this unit seriously makes me laugh at myself for ordering them and spending the shipping costs for delivery. Not even worth it to send them back.
They now reside near one shelf in my food pantry where they actually give my a laugh when I cycle through the button. Honesty, I have no idea what purpose I would ever use these for, so I might as well toss them to not be reminded of my being suckered into hitting that final checkout button on my computer.
I certainly realize the cheap price of this worklight and I know, what do you expect for such a cheap price. Well, a product that works and performs as task and has a designed purpose to some decent degree. After much thought I cannot come up with a purpose for these lights. Useless is the only word I can think of.
Oh,I have since installed 2 - 12v (60LED light bars) in my trunk, hooked up to the trunk light circuit and you have to see it to believe how my trunk is lit up at night. It's like stadium lights. As for the once in a rear blue moon flat tire experience, besides purchasing an emergency flashlight/flasher unit to keep tucked away in the trunk (Hey, you never know) - That's what I have my Ford and Allstate Emergency Roadside/Assistance service for. I will continue to check my oil levels using the cars headlights which always worked just fine.
I really hope they post this negative review and not just the positive ones.
The reason for the one star rating is because, it's evident some folks found a use for this product and are happy with their purchase. For me, WHAT WAS I THINKING!!
You should read my Amazon 5 Star rave review on the JNC660 Jump Starter. Mostly all my reviews are possitive, but this one is a fail. Sorry!
Thank for listening.
