I ordered a 15 pack of Maxell 638006 DVD-R which are supposed to be used for archival with a 100 year life expectancy. I got a 15 pack of Maxell DVD-R which have no model number on package, no label information that they are good to archival, no 100 year life mentioned. The package does not match the package as displayed on the sale page either.

4/15 worked! Way to distroy your brand name Maxell!

Should give this negative 5 star if I could. First disk failed so I tried again and with the other two DVD drives on different computers backing up at the same time to save some time. I've never been so frustrated with DVD backups! After all, 4 out of 15 worked. I received the item with a new sticker says 100 year archival life over the original barcode. But nowhere else on the entire package says that. For $5.99, it's not worth my time and effort to reason with them. Don't buy it. And I will never trust another Maxell product! With that track record, I won't trust my data on the 4 disks that worked. Time to get some new DVDs. I never thought something as simple as DVD blanks can fail so miserably. Best way to distroy your reputation Maxell!!!

Mandatory for some DVD recorders

I recorded DVD's on Panasonic DVD-R for years. One day, my recorder, a Magnavox, did not recognize the discs. I tried different ones to see if maybe the disc was bad to no avail. I decided my recorder must be bad having owned it for years. I found one on craigslist and bought it. It was used but very low use. It was exactly like my other one but with a different brand name, Funai. I inserted a Panasonic disc and it did not recognize the disc either. Luckily it came with an instruction manual. I never read instruction manuals but I figured now was a good time to start. I read the section on compatible media and several were listed, but not Panasonic. Maxell was a recommended brand so I ordered a pack of 100 from Amazon. Low and behold they worked and so did the recorder I thought did not work anymore. I believe Panasonic must have changed something in their discs at some point because they are all I used for years. So now I have two DVD recorders that both work perfectly with Maxell DVD-R's. I have learned the prices on DVD recorders have dramatically increased due to copyright laws. I paid only $200 for my used one. Motto of the story. READ THE MANUAL and use the correct disc's.

Got these due the spouse overloading an SD card with 300+ pics. Way too many for regular CD-R discs. Worked like they should and have plenty for next overload. Sending spouse to remedial training.

I had returned a defective product and Amazon gave me the option of a number of products from which to choose. I chose the Maxell 638006 DVD-R discs. I am presently trying to copy VCR tapes to DVDs and didn't have a problem until I started to use the Maxell. What a waste of time and so frustrating. They would seem to be working and then in the middle of the recording it would indicate 'Defective Disc'. I now have a pile of coasters from the discs which are defective, and still lots of work to complete my project. I should have taken my money back. Now I have to order more, and hope they aren't defective as well. Certainly won't be ordering Maxell.

Very reliable backup media

I have been using these discs to backup my files, from my family videos to my work/personal archives for more than 10 years. They have been very reliable. While occasionally I come across some discs that "loss" data from other manufacturers, I've never had any unreadable Maxell discs.

I also burn family videos for my parents so they can just pop them into their "old" DVD players or even the new blu-ray players to play back. No matter how convenient the cloud storage is, there is NO EASIER way for them to look up the label on a DVD and find what they want to watch.

With the price of USB drives dropping, a lot of people are using USB flash drives as their backup options. It's true that they are much faster and higher density, but I had bad experiences with them too. If they fail, you pretty much lose everything on it. When I used DVD's to back up, I created recoverable images, so when (and if) any of the discs are bad, I can always recover my files or at least most of my files.

Buy them and stock them whenever they're on sale.

I have an old Magnavox ZV427MG9 recorder..after trying 3 different types and speeds, still was getting an error code. After reading a few blogs, most mentioned trying DVD-R as a last resort..I can't tell you the joy I felt when I was able to finally record and transfer my treasured moments with family long gone and make copies to share. Already ordered another :)

Je me sers de ces DVD Maxell depuis plus de trois ans maintenant et ils sont fiables et durables.

Pour: Prix très raisonnable (Sur Amazon du moins...). Matériel vierge rarement défectueux. Durable.
Contre: Le disque ne peut pas réellement contenir 4.7 Go d'information car une partie est toujours réservée pour le formatage et l'information système. 4.3 Go est plus réaliste.

Conclusion: Meilleur du point de vue qualité/prix

Doesn’t read on all my DVD players

Finally got around to having the time to put my videos on to dvds. I ordered these for the price and the quantity.
The shipping was horrendous, it took 10 days to receive. The product was just as described, I was able to burn my movies no problem. However, they have only played back on computer and one out of 3 DVD players. 2 of them could not read the disk.
