I've had my cooker for 11 years (got it in college). Great for making a quick (12-15 min) single or double serving of rice. The plastic design (as well as the lid disassembly) makes for easy cleanup.

Larger servings can be difficult due to boil-over issues, so I wouldn't recommend making more than about 3/4 cup of rice at one go. Also, the bits that snap over the lid to hold it down can come off and get lost. I still have mine after 11 years, but my college roommate lost one of his way back then. (It was after he moved out with his cooker in the summer that I had to pick up my own - I was hooked at that point.)

I'm entering college this coming fall and have begun shopping for my dorm. Rice is a staple in my culture and diet, so I was looking for a convenient way to make rice. The rice comes out perfect, even though it took me the second time to make it absolutely perfect and fluffy. I was actually surprised that you could make rice that quickly, and in a microwave, no less.

This little thing makes the perfect rice everytime, and it couldn't be easier to use. You can substitute different liquids for the water such as chicken broth or add curry powder to jazz up your rice, but either way you cook it, it can't be beat.

It is a nice and compact rice cooker. However, it can cook only upto 1 and half cups of rice properly. Otherwise, the water overflows into the microwave. The lid doesn't shut tightly.

I bout this rice cooker because I figured it would be easy to clean and it was. it only makes about a cup at a time. so not helpful if you are cooking for a large family. if you try to cook more than that it over flows and has to be cleaned up. yes it is flimsy but it has lasted me several months and still workes.

I just got it. It's awesome. The clip/latches on the side are a little cheap, but it's a great little gadget. Just made sushi rice in it. The manual does not reference sushi rice, so I did a 2:1 water:rice ratio and added 2 mins to the cooking time. It came out perfectly once it rested for the 5 mins.
Ridiculously easy to clean-I would recommend hand washing if only to prolong it's lifespan (it's only 3 pieces-bowl, interior steaming lid, and outside lid), and it looks like it could hold a fairly giant quantity of cooked rice.
So glad I bought this :)

Update: made a large batch of jasmine rice and the starchy water leaked all over the microwave...but now I just put the whole thing in a large bowl to catch the over-flow and it's still fine.

This is only good for single-servings. Do not, I repeat do *not*, attempt to make a whole cup of rice in this thing, you'll have rice foam all over your microwave and probably have to add more water and cook it twice. But for half cups, as long as you're willing to calibrate how much water you add with the "high" level of your microwave, this little baby will give you lovely, fluffy rice every time. For my microwave, the proportions are 2 1/2 water to 1 white jasmine rice, and it cooks on high for 11 minutes.

If you want something you won't have to watch *or* calibrate, then you need to suck it up and get an actual good quality countertop rice cooker. That's the trade-off. Decide for yourself whether you're willing to make it. If you want something that can cook more than a single serving, take a look at the four cup version. For me, this is absolutely perfect and came at a price that made my pocketbook sing (or at least sigh with relief).
