I've heard mixed reviews, and if you received a bad board, then I hope Asus will help you out with getting it replaced, but mine works properly and I'm quite happy with the purchase. I would recommend getting it and if Asus doesn't honor the agreement of warranty, that isn't right, but me personally, I overclock so I already assume that I'm voiding the warranty by doing so, so I just accept it if the board isn't square. If the quality isn't great for overclocking, then in the future I may go with other brands, but so far I really like Asus' brand of products and the quality has be good for me. The Audio is also very good for me, although I've heard some complain that the ports have some noise, but maybe this is a rare defect because I simply don't hear any interference noise with my audio setup.
The experience of opening the package and box was enjoyable too, better than with the Asus Rog Strix 1080 Ti. When you open the box on this Rog Maximus X Hero, it's truly delightful, and the quality packaging is palpable with the "brand new" factory sealed smell. The included accessories were nice, but obviously a decent 50mm VRM fan should have been included along with it; who really needs stickers and coasters when a VRM fan would have allowed greater performance and system stability? But I digress; I'm very pleased with this purchase, and I would recommend that people who build quality products take their time to correctly install their hardware to reduce the chances of things not working properly.
The new one arrived a few days later and has been running well so far and its a quality motherboard. As long as Amazon/Asus refunds me for the original board I'm still happy but I still have to recommend that customers be careful and check that the pins are not damaged before trying to install the CPU, otherwise you might get blamed for the damage.
I’ve not started overclocking the CPU, however the memory immediately and faultlessly overclocked to the 3200 MHz CAS14 speed just by using the XMP profile.
Now all I need to do is update my 10 year old knowledge of the BIOS settings, but this board has more settings than I think I have ever seen before, or can shake a stick at.
I will update this review with my experience once I have attempted overclocking the CPU on this board.
