It has lots of compartments perfect for keeping things organized and easy to access. The quality of materials and zippers are top notch. The workmanship is a tiny bit less perfect than my Lunada (from my perfectionist perspective). I'm also thinking that the Malaga will be the perfect size once I add a netbook to my traveling bag.
The only complaint that I can find is that the bag is not very water resistant with the many easy to use zippers. My solution has been to carry a water resistant stuff sack in case of rain (haven't had to use it yet though).
In the end, this is another typical Maxpedition product which leaves little room for improvement. Highly recommended if you think this product will meet your needs.
First, the size is perfect, it's not an enormous bulky backpack. It is small enough to carry around comfortably, but spacious enough for an immense amount of gear. I use the pack primarily for work, to carry my MacBook Air (11"), iPad, External Hard Drives, Cords, Battery packs and much more. I had also previously purchased the Triad Admin Pouch, which fits perfectly on the front bottom pouch of the Malaga and is a great add-on to the Malaga. I have also purchased the M-1 Waistpack and Janus Extension Pouch to add onto my Malaga as well. I use the Blackhawk speed clips, over the MAXPEDITION Tac Ties, because they feel more sturdy in my opinion. The quality of this pack is so tough and durable, it really is something you have to feel to appreciate. There are so many pockets and hidden pockets that it has sent me over the top in my support of this brand. I have since purchased quite a few more MAXPEDITION items, including the Tactical Aggressor Attaché and can't wait to receive that one.
The shoulder strap is nice because you can switch it to either left or right hand, simply by hooking the carabiner at the end of the strap to one of the two sides at the bottom back of the pack. It also has a padded back snap pouch with loop backing (velcro) for a CCW Hook add-on, so you can be packin' when you're backpackin' if you know what I'm saying.Read more ›
My only suggestion to improve the bag, so far, is that an integrated drink holder would be nice. It's no surprise that the bag has none, it's obvious from pics and specs on Maxpedition's website, but this is the Cadillac, er....Lexus of gear bags; for this price a bottle holder could be included. Alternatively, how about a discount code for an accessory so I can afford to buy the add-on holder? For now, the elastic string with locking nut, on the rear top of the bag, will suffice to use to lash down a bottle. It seems secure, albeit horizontal and not easily grabbed while wearing the bag on my back.
Aside from that low-level gripe, this baby is just right. I've been on a quest to find a durable sling bag with military/tactical styling and features, that besides hauling a wide assortment of gear, can hold a decent-size book as well as 8.5 x 11 paper and file folders without bending or folding them required. Malaga will suit me on the hiking trail on weekends and the city street during the week. Which brings me to my real complaint: Somebody has got to standardize how the specs on these bags are measured and communicated. This is an endemic Amazon disorder, but I'll confine this comment to sling bags.Read more ›
