I have owned a number of MaxxAir products over the years and overall I have been pleased with them. It is nice MaxxAir continues to refine their product and the new hinges will make cleaning under the vent much easier than non-hinged models. The plastic housing is durable, but they will begin to "chalk" after a few years. I would consider a 5 star rating, however, the value vs. materials used do not justify the price, but they know your options are limited.

One important suggestion. Spray the wing nut fasteners which hold down the non-hinged side with a anti-corrosion spray such as Corrosion Pro or T-9 BoeShield. The nuts are aluminum and the posts stainless. The result will be corroded/frozen nuts in a reasonably short period of time if an anti-corrosion inhibitor is not applied. If you have not used T-9 Boeshield, you will be very pleased if you try it. It does a very good job slowing down the corrosion process with dissimilar metals.

I purchased two of these units for our trailer. I replaced a standard (that is, cheesy) roof vent with a Fan-Tastic 4000R, and I added this cover at the same time. I used the 2nd one to cover the (equally cheesy) bathroom vent fan.

Our trailer has been parked for the past five months (all winter), and it's held up great. We've had wind storms, a blizzard and pouring rain during that time. During ALL of it, both roof vents were open, and not a drop of water got in.

Installation was straightforward, although I supplemented the paper instructions with a video from their website.

There are two reasons why THIS is the vent cover to purchase. The first is that the vented face is angled, which helps keep rain and snow out. This angled grate also has louvers that are perpendicular to the ground. Snow/rain would have to curve through an impossible path to reach the inside of the vent cover. The second reason to purchase this vent is that it is hinged, making for easy cleanout of your fan (or for fan maintenance...if you didn't buy the Fan-Tastic Fan!!!).

If you'll be upgrading your fan at ANY time, you'll want the larger interior volume that this cover provides. You might as well get this one now (even if you AREN'T upgrading your fan today).

I can confidently recommend that you purchase this vent.

The MaxxAir 850 vent cover for RV roof fans is a great product. Extremely easy to install with simple / excellent to follow directions (both written that accompany the product, and video available on-line by the manufacturer). This covers our RV's roof fan to allow continued ventilation while we're away, while also keeping rain, debris, etc. out! Very nice product!!!

Probably a little over priced for a simple piece of molded plastic but it works as advertised and was very easy to install. It helps if you have an assistant to hand things up the ladder and the entire job can be done in about a half hour.

After our first trip with our Trailmaster camper, and it rained and we were unable to use our wonderful "fantastic fan", a cover was a must. It fits and works great with the Fantastic Fan that is on the trailer. My husband put it on and have to admit it became abit of a project since our air conditioning unit was so close to the fan cover it was hard to attach it on that side...but he did it and I am not asking how..just enjoying using the fan even in the rain!

I couldn't be happier with this decision. The item IS like new and has all the parts. Since I bought the only two I figure I saved nearly $40. I have two Fantastic Fans and they work great with these over them. I gave it only 4 stars because of one thing, the space at the bottom after mounting. This would allow for debris to get under it that can sit and stain the roof. But I fabricated some weather strips to keep this from happening. I had to use 2 layers of 3/4 x 7/16 with the sticky sides together, then held it in place with a bead of silicone to attach them to the vent, but it should work fine. Also you will have to do some work with the sealant already in place. I trimmed the lapping at the brackets, cleaned, and re-sealed when I put the brackets on. I then used butal tape under the brackets that still had a gap. then covered that with lap seal also. It was worth the effort. Otherwise if you just followed the directions, the job would go very quick.

Received the Air vents sooner than expected. Very easy installation. Took less than 20 minutes to install both units.

Purchased this to go over a Fantastic vent fan on my truck camper. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. Installation was a bit tedious, as you are working on the roof of your RV. Requires some careful measuring and drilling into your existing fan's base. If your existing fan is a MaxxAir, it will fit readily. I had to remove screws that attached the existing fan as they interfered with mounting brackets. Instructions have it attached only to the fan with an option to attach to the roof, I chose to attach to roof for greater strength. The screws they provide to attach to roof are too small, I broke one off attempting to screw into roof, so I used the ones I removed from the fan. Does not interfere with opening the vent, although it does not open quite as wide. This does increase noise and restrict airflow a bit, but not appreciably. Being able to have vent open in the rain is worth it.
