New louvers with protective galvanized screen provide superior rain protection and the new Fan/Mate for 2010 now includes hinged opening mounting brackets to allow for cleaning and servicing of your fan. Fan/Mate is designed for use with high powered ceiling fans, such as Fan-Tastic, Comfort Air or Northern Breeze. The Fan/Mate completely encloses your ceiling fan/vent allowing your fan/vent to open for ventilation, providing excellent rain protection for your RV interior. It features a high strength polyethelene cover with UV inhibitors. Designed for years of service. Three year limited warranty.

One important suggestion. Spray the wing nut fasteners which hold down the non-hinged side with a anti-corrosion spray such as Corrosion Pro or T-9 BoeShield. The nuts are aluminum and the posts stainless. The result will be corroded/frozen nuts in a reasonably short period of time if an anti-corrosion inhibitor is not applied. If you have not used T-9 Boeshield, you will be very pleased if you try it. It does a very good job slowing down the corrosion process with dissimilar metals.
Our trailer has been parked for the past five months (all winter), and it's held up great. We've had wind storms, a blizzard and pouring rain during that time. During ALL of it, both roof vents were open, and not a drop of water got in.
Installation was straightforward, although I supplemented the paper instructions with a video from their website.
There are two reasons why THIS is the vent cover to purchase. The first is that the vented face is angled, which helps keep rain and snow out. This angled grate also has louvers that are perpendicular to the ground. Snow/rain would have to curve through an impossible path to reach the inside of the vent cover. The second reason to purchase this vent is that it is hinged, making for easy cleanout of your fan (or for fan maintenance...if you didn't buy the Fan-Tastic Fan!!!).
If you'll be upgrading your fan at ANY time, you'll want the larger interior volume that this cover provides. You might as well get this one now (even if you AREN'T upgrading your fan today).
I can confidently recommend that you purchase this vent.
I like how you can leave your roof vent open all the time, to get air in the camper even in the pouring rain.
I just closed my camper up for the winter and left the vent open so it can stay aired out all winter.
Love the look too. I hate the look of the new version of this it's tall and ugly looking, this has a nice low profile design.
Rockwood put the fantastic fan at the right back corner of the roof, so this MaxxAir overhangs the roof I like that the rain can't bounce of the roof and enter the vent.
The MaxxAir fit's perfect over my fantastic fan with very little effort.
If you are installing this over a fantastic vent fan you'll need to drill 4 holes in the side of the fan, be careful, and only drill a 1/4 of inch in, so you don't hurt the fan then install the brackets. If you have a MaxxAir fan just remove the plugs on either side of the fan and install the brackets to mount the MaxxAir.
It's a really nice design you can easily open it to clean your existing fan.
