- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2018Third in a (hopefully continuing) series of hardbound albums of well-illustrated research studies, this volume is particularly useful for its coverage of the Grolier (or "fourth") Codex. A lengthy article by such research giants as Michael Coe and Mary Miller (among others) offers perhaps the best reasoned argument that the Codex is authentic and not a later fake. The four authors go through the 13th century document page by page with diagrams and analysis. And then, in a special pocket inside the back cover (and not listed in the table of contents) is a color reproduction of the codex as it now appears-and actual size, too. I totally missed this until the third or fourth time I picked up the book. Numerous additional articles fill out this third volume. Recommended!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2017This series, is amazing. They are well illustrated with both color photographs and line drawings through out and the articles, though a bit technical, are exceptionally well written. I would recommend this series for anyone interested in the Maya or mesoamerican history.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2018Another great look in the series. Michael of fan here!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2016Beautifully rendered and very readable. Remarkable story.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2016Fascinating research findings.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2017A beautiful 3rd installment in this series. There are a number of articles written by different experts on the Maya, plus there's an actual-size replica of the most recently discovered Maya folding book. Great photography compliments the excellent articles.
I should add that I would recommend this series of books to readers who are well versed in Maya history, culture, art, etc. It isn't for amateurs. I love the book and the series!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2018A really good survey of Maya archaeology with great photos. Highly recommend.
