The Mayan Calendar Users Guide: How to Apply Mayan Astrology to Your Daily Life Kindle Edition
The Mayan Calendar Users Guide: How to Apply Mayan Astrology to your Daily Life
Direct from the home of the living Maya in Guatemala, this book provides practical ways to apply authentic Mayan astrology to your daily life. Based on the Mayan 260-day Sacred Calendar, it is the first English-language book to reveal Mayan astrological techniques such as how to create and interpret the Constellation, do relationship charts and use Mayan astrology to analyze current events.
Published in 2011, it is based on three years of full-time study and research in Guatemala. In addition to ancient knowledge of Maya there and in Mexico, it presents contemporary wisdom Ki'che', Tzutujil and Kaqkichel Mayan spiritual guides, day keepers and scholars.
The Mayan Calendar Users Guide is the first book outside Guatemala to disclose the Gran Wayeb, which the Maya and Aztecs used to adjust their solar calendars for "leap day." It also brings to light the new Year Bearers of the solar calendar that will be introduced in 2013 -- and their influences on society as well as individuals.
Endorsed by Kenneth Johnson, foremost English-language authority on Mayan astrology and author of Jaguar Wisdom and Mayan Calendar Astrology, this book shows how to:
Know which Mayan day signs make your best lovers, friends and partners
Find your Mayan day sign, and the day sign for any date
Know the cosmic meanings and astrological traits of all 20 Mayan nahuales
See which days are best for looking for a job or a lover, starting a business and many other activities
Create and interpret Mayan astrological charts such as the Tree of Life and Constellation, as practiced by contemporary Maya in Guatemala
Make composite charts for relationships
Perform authentic Mayan ceremonies, including the all-important Path of the Plumed Serpent
A Web site -- www.mayancalendarusersguide.com -- updates the print and e-book editions and provides more information and knowledge uncovered as the author's research continues in Central America and Mexico.
About the Author
Shay Addams has studied the Mayan calendars and culture since the age of sixteen, when he also was introduced to Western astrology, Tarot and the I-Ching.
In the Eighties and Nineties, Addams wrote more than 20 books -- such as the best-seller The Official Book of Ultima and Microsoft Flight Simulator: The Authorized Pilot's Guide -- and hundreds of magazine articles, and has been called one of the pioneer computer journalists as a result of his work for Compute!, Computer Games, and other magazines.
Since 2008, Addams has studied and researched the Mayan Sacred Calendar and astrology in the Guatemalan highlands. His latest book, The Mayan Calendar Users Guide, reveals information about Mayan astrology never before published in the English language -- making it the quintessential primer about Mayan astrology, but one containing esoteric knowledge equally valuable to those already familiar with the basics.

I have been writing my own charts with the Mayan Cholq'ij-calendar (Tzolk'in). I like Addams' book "The Mayan Calendar Users Guide" a lot. It is a guide for everyone: for people who are familiar with the Mayan cosmology and their knowledge of time, which is unique in the world - but it is just as well a book for people who want to take their first steps into the Mayan culture and their calendars.
His delineations of the 20 day signs are very comprehensive: the quality of the day (with cosmic meaning and mythological background), what is best to do on a specific day, the character of a person born under a special day sign (his talents and challenges), body parts ruled by a day sign, power places, totems and a lot more.
He explains the Tree of Life/Mayan Cross as a person's horoscope, the different kinds of charts that can be built up and which one is best to be used in which case. But also charts for a couple, a group of people or even for a person in combination with the date of an event he explains very vividly - and these are aspects which are quite new for the readers! What I appreciate especially: for some of his examples, he shows the Mayan day signs of people who are well-known by younger people, like Charlie Sheen, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and the Beatles.
Last but not least, there is until today the great question how the Mayas handled the leap years (or better: the leap-time) and how they paid regard to these corrections in a horoscope. Addams found new aspects in this issue: there is a change of the 4 "Year Bearers," the rulers of years in the solar calendar 'Ab (Haab), every 52 years. The Year Bearers count a lot in Guatemalan Mayan horoscopes in characterizing a person, but also tell the quality of a year for all mankind. So, it seems, there are corrections to be done among people working with Mayan horoscopes. Very soon, in 2013, there will be such a change of Year Bearers, and Addams gives us an outlook of the qualities for the years starting with 2013.
Shay Addam's book is a true treasure trove, full of research, full of the old knowledge of the Mayan sages, but as well of his own experiences in making Mayan horoscopes - and everything written in a generally
understandable and fresh way!
