Tyler O'Neil, world famous skier is home, and unable to compete due to an injury he sustained while on tour. Through it all his best friend Brenna Daniels was there for him. Growing up together and knowing Tyler since she was 4 years old. Best friends that hung out together, skied together, got in trouble together, and in the case of Brenna fell in love.
This story deals with how Tyler is now working at his families business in Vermont. He is still skiing but not competitively. Tyler feels lost not being able to be out there with his friends all over the world, but he has responsibilities in the form of his 13 year old daughter whose Mother wants nothing to do with.
Brenna has always been the girl next door, and little sister to the O'Neil brothers. She's hung around with their family more than her own because of her Mother. Her Mom never approved of the life that Brenna decided to live. Brenna's Mom wants her to go away from the O'Neil family and make something of her life besides working at the ski resort.
There are many parts to this story that tie into the lives of Tyler and Brenna. Certain occurrence's in the past come to play for the future of Tyler and Brenna. Things that are a long time coming with secrets coming forward and how it affects the future. It seems that everyone in town, but Tyler, knows how Brenna feels toward him. She loves him, and he doesn't believe in love. This makes for an interesting story as the feelings come out.
The book flows well, and like I mentioned earlier, it makes you want to continue reading just to find out what is going to happen. 5 out of 5 stars.
Brenna and Tyler have been best friends since childhood, but Brenna has always been in love with him, but kept her feelings to herself, believing Tyler would never love her back. Tyler is a commitment-phobe who keeps all of his relationships superficial after accidentally getting a high school classmate pregnant. He's attracted to Brenna, but would never act on it out of fear of jeopardizing their friendship. Both live and work at Snow Crystal Spa and Resort, a ski area in Vermont, but when the resort gets overbooked at the holidays, Brenna has to move in with Tyler, and their mutual attraction suddenly threatens their friendship the way they both always feared it would.
I found the first half of this book kind of slow, but I know there are people who really enjoy slow-burning, tension-building romances, and this definitely fits that bill: the couple don't share their first kiss until page 269. The last third of the book moved a lot faster and I found it emotionally cathartic (it made me cry twice) without being too angsty.
I had a few quibbles with some of the subplots -- Brenna's tense relationship with her parents resolves just too easily, for example, and Tyler's ex is just too shrewish to be believed -- but nothing that ruined the story for me.
is working with him daily at his family ski resort. Brenna has to move into his house when her cabin is rented during Christmas
week. Will Tyler realize he loves Brenna before she leaves her job after Christmas because she feels it is time to move on since Tyler isn't able to say I Love You. Sarah has written a wonderful story of friendship and love. Looking forward to read more of her books.
