Dangerously tasty, but two issues
on October 10, 2009
These are surprisingly tasty -- they taste a little like apple-cinnamon flavored shortbread. They are not chewy, but crumbly and while they do require some water to make palatable, they certainly don't actively make you thirsty. The only problem is that it is so good that I, and now my girlfriend too, might keep eating them before they are needed. A great addition to an emergency kit.
After having these for over a year, I have two complaints.
First, the packages are very hard to open without sharp scissors! A fixed blade knife will do it, but you have to be very careful as there is little "dead air" space between the bar and the edge of the vacuum-sealed packaging.
Second, the bars get extremely hard when cold. You basically need to break off parts with a sturdy knife. I wouldn't want to rely on these if stuck in cold weather. However, Powerbars and every other bar I've ever tried does the same thing so I can't complain too much.
