The series is fantastic up to the end of Mercy n Mayhem. After that, facts are just wrong.
"If you dont continue to receive your injections, the very thing protecting your DNA will disintegrate and destroy you." - Dr. Evil, err Winters
As time passes, Reaper is faced with another harsh reality, one that goes completely against their vow to protect others. Reaper and his team have, essentially, been turned into controllable killing machines, completely against their will.
Caroline, a Senator's daughter, is trapped in what's become her own personal hell. She's been isolated, aside from those continually poking and prodding her, taking more blood than they should, running numerous tests, etc. She's decided, if it hurts her, they'll do it, as long as she doesn't die, because that would mean they could no longer use her to create their precious serum. The seemingly new leader of it all? Her former fiance.
Reaper and his men are later kicked out of the program, and given only a few doses each as a parting gift. Reaper is now on a personal mission and his team has their own. Theirs? Escaping their new captivity as they, due to their altered state, are being "watched over."
His objectives? Get the serum and Caroline, or they die once their supply runs out. But when Reaper realizes Caroline is the way to ensure they have an endless supply, therefore extending their lives with each dose...
Caroline is shocked to see the man, an obvious soldier, standing over her bed. She's sure he's there to rescue her, sent by her dad. Though Caroline is in excruciating pain from all that was done to her, as well as lack of movement for so long, she's determined to be free, and knows Reaper will make it happen. He...soothes her, and it's almost as if he acts as a magical cure for all that ails? her.
Reaper can't help the emotions Caroline brings out in him, as well as an attraction he knows is mutual. He knows they may not escape, which means his death and Caroline's return to being used as nothing but medical equipment. He can handle the former, but the latter? He doesn't want them touching her, using her, anymore. She looks at him as if he's her hero, believing he's there to save her. And yet...
"But you're going to use her for the same thing they will..." - Reaper's internal thought
As Reaper and Caroline continue making their way through the jungle on their journey toward freedom, their intense chemistry refuses to be denied. However, Reaper is keeping secrets from Caroline, quite a few of them, and one has the power to destroy her, along with any possibility of the connection they've begun building surviving. Reaper knows he should tell Caroline the truth if there's any hope of her ever forgiving him. He never imagined himself as the type of man that could have a stable, committed relationship, not with how he grew up, and especially not with all he's done and what's he's become because of it. But he's started hoping, picturing a future with Caroline, and honestly, it scares him. Plus, he knows doing so eventually condemns he and his men to death as they need the serum Caroline can provide.
What happens when Caroline learns the truth about Reaper's plans for her? Can he ever regain her trust? Can Reaper convince Caroline his love for her is real? Will Caroline ever be free of the threat of becoming a prisoner again for her blood? Will Reaper and his men get the serum they need? If so, will it be enough? Will Reaper and Caroline be able to start their future together? Or will they always be looking over their shoulders, waiting for the past to find them?
One-click now and follow along as two people, both in difficult situations, find a love that makes life worth fighting for.

Captain T.K. Reaper known as “Reaper” and his team volunteered to be part of Project Mayhem an experiment with an experimental serum on soldiers to increase their strength and physical stamina giving them an edge in battle. Unfortunately Project Mayhem also has unforeseen consequences turning Reaper and his team dependent on the serum. Reaper’s only answer is to find the one person Caroline Cotter who holds the key to the serum that will save him and his men’s lives. Can Reaper use Caroline to save him and his men or will love get in the way?
As I stated I didn’t like Reaper. In the previous book mercy and mayhem Reaper was in that book and did something that I couldn’t forgive him for. So in my mind he needed to prove that he was worthy of being a hero I could actually like, respect and he better do something majorly big to redeem himself because he wasn’t winning any points with me. I didn’t think Reaper had it in him to actually have a heart and fall in love. When I actually started to see that he wasn’t this stone cold warrior and could feel things that I actually started to like him connected with him plus fall for him a little bit too. Caroline did annoy me at first she was a little flighty and naïve after waking up but as the book progressed I was cheering her on. Caroline was really a pretty strong admirable heroine despite her innocence. I wanted her several times to hit Reaper knocking some sense into him but the chemistry was very hot between them that in reality they were good for each other. Now I can’t wait for the next book in the mayhem series and the rest of Reaper’s team even Melissa who I don’t trust but she just might surprise me. I can highly recommend this book for any military romance lover because they will just love it even with the slight paranormal aspect in it!
