I bought a new $300 Maytag 2 cu. ft. Over the Range Microwave oven and the internal computer burned out after only 13 months ... and it was out of warranty ... I thought it was a fluke because after all ... Maytag is suppose to be the best ... so, I bought a similar Maytag 2 cu. ft. model which was more expensive for $450 ... the internal computer burned out of it too after only 26 months ... and again, it was out of warranty ... the lonely Maytag repairman charged me $129 (for 30 minutes of his time) to tell me that a new computer would cost me $398 ... you can do the math on all of this stuff ... my wife and I are a family of two people here ... and a microwave does not get any heavy use in our house ... also the two Maytag microwaves, that went south on us, were both previously professionally installed ... in the 60's and 70's, and before, Maytag was the best that money could buy, but since manufacturing has all gone out of the USA ... well, you know the rest ... my advice is to stay away from Maytag junk .... Maytag is much too expensive for what you get ... apparently they're only surviving on their old good reputation.. at least for now anyway ... everyone has an opinion ... buy this brand or stay away from that brand ... everybody is an expert ... I didn't know what to do so yesterday I ordered a new countertop model 1.5 cu. ft. Panasonic Microwave oven for $115 ... from Amazon ... I didn't know which brand to buy so I bought a Panasonic because four years ago I bought 3 new Panasonic televisions, 3 new Panasonic DVD players, and a new Panasonic shaver for my wife ... all of my Panasonic products have been performing flawlessly now for 4 years ... we'll see how the new Panasonic microwave holds up .... buy what you think is best ,,, but for me ...Read more ›

This microwave replaced a Panasonic Inverter microwave that I loved, but couldn't get parts for after it failed after 10 years.
This is the worst microwave oven I have ever owned.
Firstly, it has the worst cooking performance I've ever seen in a microwave. It won't even pop popcorn! I claims to be 1000 watts output, but I would be surprised if it was half that. It leaves 1/2 the popcorn unpopped even after 4 minutes. We have a cheap GE microwave at work that does a beautiful job with popcorn, or anything else, for that matter.
This thing also has the worst ventilation I've ever seen. My Panasonic had a separate cooling fan and vent blower. This one does not.
All it does is run the cooling fan for ventilation. I had a water boiling on an induction cooktop within inches of this microwave and even with the vent on high, it did not even change the direction of the steam!
So, in a nutshell, completely useless for its intended purpose.
Don't waste your money.
Panasonic blows this thing away, and melts the remains. The only reason I did not get another Panasonic is because they stopped making over-the-range microwaves. :-(

This microwave stopped working a year after I paid almost $500 for it (of course, just AFTER the 12 month warranty expired). I took it in for repair diagnostic and they said that it was only a door sensor that went bad but with due to the way the microwave is built you have to buy a bunch of new parts for $250 to fix it. To make it worse, I built my new house 4 years ago, this is the SECOND brand new Maytag microwave that went bad and needed to be replaced, in addition to a dishwasher that stopped working properly. I, too, am moving on to another brand.

I just saw another review for this microwave and agree that this unit is way too big/bulky/heavy. It is so oversized that teh installer had to saw my cabinets to squeeze it in. This thing is a monster.

The other bad reviews are very correct. No power....4 plus minutes to pop a half a bag of popcorn and not able to cook a baked potato. Only good for reheating food. I have a $70 microwave that works great. Is one was junk from day one!
