Not the same as the previous bottle.

I bought what appeared to be the same bottle at a grocery store several years ago and recently ran out of that bottle. It was darker in color, smelled better, and said something on the bottle about 41% or 42% alcohol. The bottle I purchased in Jan 2018 has different ingredients "vanilla extractives in water?" and doesn't state the alcohol content. Maybe there was some regulatory change in labeling, but it also has less "kick" when I lick the teaspoon after pouring. I really don't think it's the same.

My bottle's ingredients are NOT the same as the picture here on Amazon.

I know the price of vanilla beans has risen astronomically, but I'm willing to pay for good vanilla and trusted McCormick not to cheapen their product. Disappointed.

You can buy this vanilla without any hesitation

I tell anyone to buy this vanilla without hesitation. The best price at the local supermarket where I live is $3.49 for one ounce or $4.99 for 2 ounces. So I would have to buy 8 bottles at $4.99 for a total of almost $40.00 if I were to buy this product locally.

My daughter gave us Mexican vanilla which was very expensive. However, I can never tell the difference when using the Mexican vanilla or the McCormick brand with my baking. If I was a professional baker making elaborate desserts then perhaps I would notice a difference. However, I use the vanilla to bake cakes, cookies, pies or for pancakes or waffles. It’s not worth the extra expense for to me to buy the expensive vanilla.

Another thing I like is that the bottle I just received doesn’t expire until October 14, 2019. I have over 3 years to use this bottle so I don’t have to worry about purchasing the large bottle. I will definitely run out before then!

I make spiced rum using vanilla and nutmeg and sugr. I have tried other vanilla extracts thinking the fancy brand names would make them something special. They were not. McCormicks seems to be a very superior product and quite reasonable in price which is probably been around for umpteen years.

As I understand it, an extract has to be thirty five percent alcohol minimum. If I remember correctly, McCormick's is forty five. A "Bourbon" vanilla I got from Wal Mart was only thirty five. It was okay but not neaqrly as good.

Anything that does not contain alcohol has to be called a flavoring or something else I believe. Don't get a knee jerk reaction to it being around ninety proof. It all cooks away and, if used in something cold, you don't use nearly enough to even get a buzz on. A little goes a long way.

Bourbon, I believe, is a type of vanilla variety and has nothing to do with American whiskey. There was an island named after the French dynasty in the Indian Ocean. I believe it is now Reunion Island where a piece of that missing Indonesiam lost plane washed up.

If you eed vanilla, buy this product. McCormick makes a lot of good things though I did not care for imitation maple I ordered. I think it's just the fact it is imitation maple and not a good flavoring to begin with.
Both vanilla and chocolate originated in Mexico as did the avocado, the pale gree variety. Ole.

A good quality Vanilla extract at a very good price

A a professional Chef I always want the best ingredients for the food I prepare. I used to use Nielsen Massey vanilla which is pricey for all of my dishes that call for vanilla extract, but after testing my baked goods with both brands I found no difference in the taste. I attribute this to the temperature that cookies, cakes, puddings and pies bake or cook at cause most of the flavors in pure vanilla extract to burn away. Even in custard based ice creams this happens. There are only a few dishes I use the Nielsen Massey now (I do use their vanilla bean paste frequently or a vanilla bean) but now for almost all of the dishes I bake or that are cooked I use McCormik's vanilla extract. The exception are butter cream frosting's, no cook ice creams, milk shakes, or any other thing that is not cooked and calls for a premium quality vanilla extract.

Not as strong as the smaller

This tasted a little watered down compared to my smaller bottle of the same product. I gave it a good shake before I used it, but it still seemed a bit weaker in flavor. No one else seem to notice.

I am giving this product 5 stars because when I bought it 2 months ago I was able to buy it at a great price and I loved the product. I am a baker and I use a lot of vanilla. I went back to purchase this product again today and I see that the price is $10 HIGHER than it was a couple months ago. I do not find the new price to be a value and I won't be purchasing this again. Vanilla prices are going up everywhere, but this seems like quite a price jump. The product itself is great.

Since I bake a lot I started buying this vanilla instead of the tiny grocery store bottles, and I love it! It doesn't have the strong alcohol smell or flavor that even some of the pricier little bottles have at the grocery store, & this size is great as I go through it pretty fast. I love that it's gluten free as well. The only thing I don't like that much is that it always seems to drip down the sides of the bottle each time I use it, even though it says it has an "easy pour spout" to eliminate messes. Oh well, for the value and good flavor that I get from this, I can put up with wiping the bottle after using it.

Not Just For Baking

I actually didn't buy this for baking. Try this. Heat your oven to about 325 degrees, put a few capfuls of this stuff in an oven-safe bowl and just throw it in the oven for an hour. Your house will smell like little angels have visited it. Hmm, I'm dispensing cleaning advice on Amazon now, when did I get so old? :-(
