Sourcing the Bean
To ensure McCormick pure vanilla flavor and aroma are consistent, we select the highest grade beans that can be traced back to their source of origin. We use a unique blend of beans from Madagascar, Indonesia, Tanzania and Uganda to achieve high-quality, pure flavor year after year.
The McCormick Difference
What does pure vanilla look like? Pure vanilla should have a deep, dark color similar to molasses. Take a whiff. The aroma is distinctly warm and intense with hints of bourbon and rum. Our pure vanilla extract is also non-GMO, free of corn syrup and naturally gluten-free. When you start with flavor this pure, you don’t need artificial anything.
We maintain constant control during production to achieve balanced flavor and aroma. McCormick sensory scientists conduct a series of tests to guarantee our distinctive bourbon-rum vanilla taste.
Where to Use McCormick Vanilla
Enhance the flavor of your favorite cake, muffin, or brownie mix with one teaspoon of McCormick Pure Vanilla. You can also stir vanilla into coffee, hot chocolate or tea for a richer flavor and enticing aroma. Or add vanilla to meat sauces, marinades, vinaigrettes and glazes to round out the flavor profile.
Spicy Pulled Pork in Tart Cherry Sauce with Vanilla Slaw
The pairing of two flavorful and contrasting ingredients – cayenne and tart cherries – provides a perfect match in a slow-cooked pulled pork sandwich. Top it off with colorful and crunchy vanilla slaw.
Spring Vanilla Vanaigrette
Spring Vanilla Vinaigrette is the perfect dressing for a salad of baby greens with strawberries or grape tomatoes. Sprinkle with toasted walnuts, if desired.
Vanilla Rich Chocolate Chip Cookies
The flavors of premium vanilla and semi-sweet chocolate blend together to make a tasty combination in these traditional chocolate chip cookies. The addition of walnuts creates a satisfying savory crunch.
Very Vanilla Fruit Salad
Pure vanilla adds a sweet touch to this refreshing fruit salad. Serve at brunch, or for dessert or a snack. It's also an easy potluck dish.

I have decided that true madagascar burbon vanilla is the only way to go, and this McCormicks is the best price I've found on that variety of vanilla bean extract. I cannot tell the difference between other more expensive madagascar burbon brands such as spice islands, and safeways O-organics label. McCormicks has a reputation to maintain, they can't afford expensive lawsuits, and it is of course passed through standard American FDA standards, which basically protects the consumer from some of the stuff Mexico makes.
The following is an excerpt you can find by googling "Mexican vanilla danger"
2008 FRIDAY, Oct. 31 (HealthDay News) -- So-called Mexican "vanilla" is often made with a toxic substance called coumarin and shouldn't be bought by consumers, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned this week.
Coumarin is related to warfarin, which is found in some blood thinners. Eating foods with coumarin may be dangerous for people taking blood thinners, because the combination could increase their risk of bleeding.Read more ›
This is not artisinal product that will vary with every batch; this is the exact same vanilla extract bottle after bottle. You can rely on it to always taste the same and since it's the "default" brand of vanilla extract in the US, the person that wrote your recipe probably expected you to use it, or something like it.
And here's a little tip: instead of removing the safety seal, just poke a pinhole in it from the spout. Now you can easily squeeze out precise quantities of vanilla.
Update: I am changing my rating from 5 to 4 stars, not because there is anything wrong with this product, but because I have found something much better.
I bought this and two other bottles of vanilla at the same time: an organic Rodelle 4-oz bottle, and a Simply Organic 4-oz bottle. I'll give my thoughts on how they compare. All three are okay, and this one is the best deal as far as price per fluid ounce, but one stood out about the others and it was not this one.
McCormick Pure Vanilla Extract-16 OZ
McCormick is the brand you can buy at any grocery store, and it tastes the same here just in a bigger bottle (the bottle is plastic, FYI: both of the below organic ones come in glass.) If you just need a large amount of vanilla of reliable quality for a low price, this is a good deal. If you're making something fancy and special though, by all means spring for the next item below: the superior flavor is worth it.
Simply Organic Pure Vanilla Extract Certified Organic, 4-Ounce Glass Bottle
This organic vanilla is phenomenal. I would go out of my way to buy it again, because of how rich and creamy it tastes.Read more ›
