Holy cow, the difference.
The McCulloch has a smaller reservoir for water, but it is not constant-on, like the Earlex is. Also it heats up to readiness in about 8 minutes, rather than 45 for the Earlex. Additionally, the steam comes out at a higher volume than the Earlex. Pretty much on any measurement axis, the McCulloch is superior.
Now I know, you're probably scratching your head why I would be posting a wallpaper steamer review for something that is technically not a wallpaper steamer.
So here's the kicker. Over the weekend returned the Earlex Piece of Crap Steamer (TM) to HD and Primed myself a McCulloch MC1275. On monday we had TWO of these bad boys running, and the wallpaper came down like rain! When the job was done, I cleaned up this little beauty and took it home to my wife, who promptly spent the entire night steam cleaning everything in sight.
Literally, she did a dance when reading the instruction manual and found out everything she could sterilize with it.
We have polished concrete floors throughout our home, and this beast sterilizes and shines them up beautifully. We're very pleased with the microfiber covers, and there's approximately 64 billion attachments to go with it for various and sundry applications such as sanitizing fine china and degreasing the engine on your 1972 Cadillac Bonneville.
And it's worth noting, the manual says it can hold 48oz of water, MAX. I have definitely put 64oz into it with no issues whatsoever.
Only "con" I've come across so far is that if you pull it fast enough, the "hubcaps" come off the back wheels. So...don't go drag racing your McCulloch MC1275, as you may regret it.
It comes with several attachments. My wife and I fight over it because she loves to use it on the floors, rugs, ex. I love getting the bugs around carpets, dressers, and beds. Use the skinny attachment for bugs and big attachments for floors.
Excellent buy if you need a power steamer for bugs! Highly recommended from my family.
They hid. They ran. They died! Vengeance is mine. I steam cleaned every inch of my apartment, every item of clothing, every sock purse towel, anything non electronic was steamed. It’s so high pressure I got the baseboards, the cracks where they were hiding...
I can breathe again. I will be using this on a monthly basis to steam and there is a bigger component for the floors and couches and stuff of that sort.
If you are on a budget and fighting bedbugs try this. I would say it lasts about 30 minutes at a time. It took about 9 hours for me to get my 2 bedroom (1300sq ft) done. If you have a larger house or some help get two of things and get the job done.
So far I have not seen or felt any bedbugs. As a precautionary manner I will be having the entire apt steamed but I honestly don’t even think it’s necessary. This product saved my sanity!

Great machine, works really well on tiles and my filthy grout- am very impressed BUT the small bristle heads wear rapidly- last maybe 4-6 tiles worth of grout. This would not be an issue if I could replace them, as as others in Canada have found you cannot buy them in Canada and the only place in the USA is the manufacturer who refuses to ship to Canada ( I checked and unlike others they did reply - told me to try Amazon.ca or Home Depot even though they know I'll be unsuccessful). I don't understand why it's sold in Canada if not supported.
If I'm to keep the steamer I'll need to use a reshipping company if the seller allows this- if not the machine will be useless and I'll have to return. Such a shame , as I really like it
Meantime I'm using a Rubbermaid Reveal grout brush which is pretty good ( 100% more durable at least) after steaming and as an FYI- my Bissell little green machine to suck up the dirty water.
Some things I've learnt through trial and error:
-Only fill the amount recommend
- if it's spitting water, you overfilled it
-when the light turns off/on you can still use it (I thought it meant it was re heating. That is wrong)
-dont let the steam hit you
-let it cool for 10 mins before re filling (take cap off slowly to let air leak out)
If I figure anything else out I will edit my review. All in all I am really impressed!
1. Very poorly made attachments; the brush attachments start coming apart after just a few uses. Quite disappointed with the quality.
2. No cord and hose storage; yall could've just glued something on it so as to assist in storing the wires and hose. Quite inconvenient as it is now.
3. Emptying the tank is always a task; You have to turn the machine upside down just to empty the water. This is a task because the cords and hose are still attached to it and its quite awkward trying to make sure the hot water coming out of the tank doesn't burn you while emptying it.
4. Due to poor quality of attachments you would need to buy more soon and you can't get them here in Canada.
5. Couple of attachments don't even fit.
Overall, I hate this purchase and will advice anyone to stay away from it.
Note 2: Recently after 9 months The power would not come on. I contacted the company via email and advised them of the issue. After giving them the information they needed and the required cord cut and pic. A new steam cleaner was sent. This is a company who stands behind there product. This is very good to see in today's times. Jimm in Halifax
Now, the hose sheathing is ripped next to the nozzle, even though I never put it under any strain. In retrospect, I wish I opted for a 2- or 3-year extended warranty - I just never expected a unit with so many positive reviews to be so fragile.
No idea yet if anyone in Canada can service it.
I am in the process of moving from one condo to another.
I have very high standards for cleanliness and have used a similar discontinued product... shark steamer
The value for$ on this unit is incredible. I have saved myself at least 15 hours of labour tune with only 6 hours of use.
Previously unusable bathrooms shine like new. White Appliances with 10 yrs of grunge in every crevice are now in showroom floor condition.
It holds up to 45 min of non stop steam. I run out of steam before this steamer!
You can spend double or triple on comparable units for similar performance.
My only complaint is that the tips lose their shape quickly making them essentially useless after 1 use.
