The are by far the best braces I have owned. Having torn and retorn my left ACl and torn my richg ACL as well as hac the meniscus removed in both, I am no stranger to knee pain. I do like to try to stay active as much as possibl;e and these braces are the most comfortable and supportive non custom braces that I have ever worn. The most important part to me is unlike any othe brace I have worn, including those pull ups, the are great over an extended period of time. They dont chafe or cut circulation and they have the support of a hinge system. These are definitely the next best thing to the thousand dollar custom fit bcaces. very pleased.

I tore my ACL and MCL 30 years ago, I've had half the meniscus removed, and I have arthritis and tendinitis, but I am still very active - cycling in the summer and cross-country skiing, skate technique, in the winter (squash is out though). Skate skiing has always been hard on my knee because of the twisting motion on the kick. Whenever I ski the knee swells and is painful, and the tendinitis flares up. I got this brace today, and I absolutely could not believe what a difference it made. I skied for almost 3 hours and my knee feels great! It's like I didn't even go out. Didn't even need ibuprofen afterwards. I have a custom made hard plastic brace, but it's not nearly as good for skiing, because it wouldn't stop the micro movements that cause my knee to swell up. (The custom brace is rigid and would stop me from blowing out my knee again, but that's not really a concern with skiing.) The custom brace was also much less comfortable. This brace was great for comfort - I could feel it now and then, but basically I forgot I was wearing it. I know that one time out isn't really enough for a proper review, but it made such a huge difference that I have to post. I'll update if more experience shows I was wrong. I am kicking myself for not having gotten this years ago.

Update: I've skied 5 days out of the last week, using this knee brace, without any tendinitis or pain at all! Fantastic!

Solid brace that provides great lateral support. Unfortunately, if your injury combines a meniscus, this brace does little to prevent twisting. Other than that, the workmanship could use a little extra QA. The stitching on the top of the brace that hold the side bar hinge at the right position came undone after only a few wears. It wasn't a big deal, I just broke out the sewing kit and restiched, but was frustrating nonetheless. Two other negative points...The brace does not stay up that well for all day wear and the brace sizes a bit big. I got a large per the sizing chart, and it fits, but just. I have been going through various braces trying to find the right one for my injury which includes a combination of MCL and meniscus - I am still looking...

I should have stuck with the McDavid Dual Disk Hinged Knee Brace. It costs less and has better support in the water and lasted longer. This deluxe hinged brace has too many straps. I purchased the deluxe hinged brace because I thought I would be getting more support because of the extra straps. The extra cross straps came lose in the water and became flaps instead of supports. It might be a great knee brace if you're not swimming in it. The chlorine degraded the material faster than I would have liked.

This is the first brace that actually holds the kneecap in place despite whatever weird position I have my leg in. I hihgly recommend it, although I would caution people that it is easy to put the straps too tight so that circulation is crimped somewhat. But that is nothing compared to the rigidity with which this brace holds the kneecap while leaving you a full range of movement.

too bulky and heavy for my little wife of 110 lbs
Need an open style this requires it to be slipped over the foot and pulled up over the knee.
She needs to prevent hyperextension of theknee but this is too awkward for her. Good for an athelete

I agree with what others have posted on this item regarding construction quality and fit/feel.

But I did not heed the advice of others who posted to buy the next size up. In stead, I chatted with the McDavis Co. reguarding size and what folks were posting on size discrepancy. In spite of my concerns they recommended the X-large, which is what my knee measurements were, hense what I base my size decision on.

When it came it was way too small.

Since Amazon will not allow a return on this item, I am stuck with it.

Despite this, I order the XX-large the second time, and it fits like a glove. I barely feel it. A good buy. Good enough that I order a third one for my other knee.

The reason I only rated it 4 stars is the size issue. and I'm out $45.00 because I cannot return the too small knee brace.

What a great brace for the price. The $300 brace my doctor ordered for me hasn't held up as well as this brace. Just a note on size: I think the braces run a little small, I'm tall at 6'2" but I don't' think of myself as extra large but I find the XL brace fits me well. I don't think the L brace would have fit me.
