This was bought as a gift - but I did see it before bestowing it upon the receiver. It's pretty amazing! I cannot imagine the time and energy this took to create. Very glad to have found it here as it has been difficult to get a hold of through the foundation that owns the rights to it.

How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2008I have been looking for this map for 25 years. A room mate in college had one. It does not describe the parameters (width= population or sphere or influence) but overall it is visually very interesting.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2016Wonderful purchase, we will certainly keep this for a lifetime. :)
- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2012THis chart lists empires and cultures in their periods for the past 4,oo years--from Middle Kingdom in Egypt to Bill Clinton. Its verticle scale indicates the year, and the horizontal appears to be a measure of the importance of the culture/empire listed. THe Horizontal axis is not labelled, so it is not clear whether it si supposed to meanure military might, cultural importance, or precisely What?
Both the relative importance and the continuity of empires are oversimplified in ways that could lead to animated discussions. For example the Papal States appear to spring into being in 850 AD,(100 years after the Donation of Pippin) as a division of the Frankish empire, Despite the fact that they had existed in some form (under teh Byzantine empire) for several hundred years, and the Donation of Pippin is seen as guaranteeing their continued existance independent of Constantinople.
THe Chart also overlooks things, Specifically the History of the Aztec Empire, which controlled an area larger than France, and whose capital was as large as Constantinople.
In short, this Chart is useful for comparison, but not as an authoritative source
- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2014great, thanks so much
- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2007This product is terrible. Despite the vertical axis having an acceptable scale, the width is completely unlabelled, having no numerical measure at all.
On the contrary: the width denotes the author's impression of relative 'importance.' Of course, if you're asking "important from what perspective?" or "and how does one measure importance in inches of width?" then you already understand 80% of what makes this map utterly meaningless.
This same creator has an even worse (and racist, to boot) map of evolutionary history. Stay away from this if you want to actually use it to convey needed information to your children or students; it is useful only as satire or perhaps a research project in critical thinking and review of academic sources.

I fulfill my expectation with this poster
- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2013I ordered my copy of the Histomap of World History through the North American Montessori Teachers' Association. Go to their web site store and print out the order form. The cost is just $10 plus shipping.
