The heart of the volume, though, is the state and (Canadian) provincial maps, with major metropolitan areas getting their own space, too. Examples: We travel to Baltimore quite a bit. A decent map of the city--and another of the inner harbor on pages 46-47. I always enjoy visiting the Illinois map (pages 32-33--with Chicago on pages 34-35). I like looking at the small towns around my home in Kewanee, to recall the places I used to visit or drive through.
Now? I live in Pennsylvania and I use the Rand McNally atlas to plan "leafing trips" in late October. Or to plan day trips in the region.
As usual, this is another fine product of Rand McNally.
The Canada and Mexico sections are very minimalistic - this is only truly useful for the USA. The small city maps have the interstates and major attractions but are not much use for actually getting around, but that is not the objective of an atlas that covers the whole county.
The "protective cover" is a nice addition - a simple plastic book cover, but it does keep the edges from getting tattered.
We bought this atlas so that we could track my father in law as he did a thru-hike on the Appalachian Trail this summer. It was fun being able to read his text message updates every few days and then be able to look at and mark his progress on the map.
Rand McNally has always made a good quality road atlas. No hesitations with recommending this one.
