This towel is light and folds up real small. Comes with a button-type thing (sorry, I don't know the technical name) on the loop which you can undo to hang onto a bar without an opening. Also comes with its own carrying pouch, although I don't use it since it becomes additional weight, but some people might like that because it keeps things neat inside a stuffed backpack. It is super absorbent, and my wet hair gets dry in a jiffy, which is pretty powerful for such a thin towel. Also, because it is so thin, it dries even in the wettest and coldest of conditions. I got the large towel because I wanted something that could provide me some coverage in a changing room, and that has proven useful so far.
Like everyone else, using the towel initially took some getting used to. It's not a fluffy white towel that you can rub over your skin. Because it is so thin, it gets a little clingy on wet skin and you eventually cannot use it with a rubbing-motion without it folding all over itself. Dabbing is definitely the way to use this properly. I also have another similar Microfiber towel of a stiffer material (different brand), but I don't find any difference in this aspect. It still gets clingy when wet.
I found that the towel did have a smell inbetween washes, after I've used it for about 5-6 times. Maybe that depends on the condition you are in, e.g. how humid and how quickly the towel takes to dry. Initially it bothered me a little, but after a while, I got used to it. Because I use it as a blanket sometimes, I've learned that it gets REALLY cold when it is wet. So on hot days, I wet it a little and throw it around my neck. Because it is smooth, sand comes off easily on this towel, which makes it great as a beach towel. Conventional beach towels are often too fluffy and trap too much sand in them.
I would love to see how this would fare against the super compact Sea to Summit towels, which is why I haven't replaced my lost towel yet. For now, the specifications of the Sea to Summit towels are a little difficult to resist, although the performance is yet to be tested.
Edit: 6 months later and these are holding up well. I have two that I personally use and they are getting washed after every two uses. They look the same as the day I received them. After switching the whole house to these, I have noticed a big difference in the dryer times and gas I am using. Would still recommend.
I love it because it is extremely lightweight and compact. It also dries FAST. As in completely soaked to the point that I can squeeze the water out of it myself to completely dry in as little as couple hours in humid conditions. I dry, warm temperatures, it can dry in less than 20 minutes. Very handy when you are at a hostel or constantly on the move packing/unpacking.
As others mentioned, because it is microfiber, it definitely feels different than a normal towel. It does get a little sticky when it gets wet but I got used to it very quick, you just dry yourself differently - more patting it down over your body rather than trying to rub it back and forth. While it does feel different than a cotton towel, I still feels much better than most other microfiber towels I used.
One word of caution - buy a size one larger than what you think you need. I ordered Medium first since somewhere I found it to be 40" long, just a bit longer than 38" waist, which is normally what I wear. It was too short, wouldn't even wrap around my body the whole way. So I replaced it with Large which I think is 50" long and it gives me just a little of wrap around.
Oh and ditch the carry sack. It adds 1/3 of the bulk to it. Just fold it tightly - it will take less space than a fist - and put it in a plastic bag.
It dries fast, is big enough for me and all my needs, is light enough and packs wonderfully in a backpack. I've noticed that while using it at home as my shower towel that I have to wash it after 3 or 4 days. I have the impression that at the early days (when I used it on a week's trip to India) it would last a bit longer without getting that damp smell. But I have to say that this towel has been used, washed, left with salt for a couple of days, been washed at high temperature, with and without condicioner so bottom line plenty of abuse, to the extend that I probably went agains the vendor recommendations.
I love this towel and I will keep it until it starts getting holes :) because it just works. Oh and drying your body with a towel like this is not the same as using a cotton towel. You basically 'roll' the towel on your body and it will dry excess wet from the skin but feels soft and, interesting enough, it doesn't feel like it is drying the skin, just making you dry.
I would buy this again, and once this is gone I will for sure try another micronet towel. My wife has a few towels from other brands and she told me that mine is actually more efficient than hers.
Highly recommended, please keep up with the quality on new products!
