To me too many soundtracks do not stand well on their own. Without the visuals the music can easily become so forgettable.
For me this is not the case with this soundtrack. A few selections I would skip but for the majority of songs I have no problem hitting the repeat function.
A touching movie. A little biased? Maybe. My father as a child picked cotton as did most of the Mexicans in his neighborhood where he grew up. So it touches a familiar place.
Yet if you discount my slight bias the
music is still very fitting and to me does not sound over the top with the Latin theme nor inappropriate for its placement in the movie.
I think this soundtrack is strong enough to almost almost stand on its own, minus the visuals. The composer has done a good work here, something to be proud of.
