The appeal for me was the price and the nostalgia of the marbled cover notebook. Its stiff cover isn't has stiff as the ones I remember from when Lincoln was President but definitely thicker and firmer than those on a spiral notebook. On the inside cover is a schedule maker with the days of the week written in three languages. On the inside cover is a times table and a few rudimentary grammar and spelling rules of dubious value.
There is no wire spiral here to catch on one's swe.ater, but a spiral notebook does have some advantages over the Mead. The spiral notebook will lie open flat without that annoying popup crease in the middle. Also the spiral will stay open all by itself, not propped open like the Mead. Of course, a notebook that only stays open when you want it too has a privacy advantage.
I really like the red marble cover. Purple is a close second for me.
Interestingly this book is made in Vietnam.
It turned out as pretty decent. Hard cover, 100 pages, great product.I like the schedule on the front page, so i can put my daily plan on it. I write with my fountain pen with MontBlanc ink, and it doesn't go through the paper. You can probably see a little from the other side, but definitely no problem writing on both sides. The paper was a bit thinner than the NORCOM ones, but was great value for the price.
I went to a sleep specialist because I was having difficulty remaining awake during the day. I would wake up from my vivid dreaming feeling exhausted as if I had never slept at all. My doctor ruled out sleep apnea. He treated me as if I had narcolepsy but that didn't solve the problem. I was still having vivid dreams that were becoming increasingly more disturbing.
Finally, my doctor suggested I begin writing down all my dreams in a composition notebook. He said it helped many of his patients who were having difficulties dealing with the deaths of loved ones. I actually bought several red Mead composition books. I would always keep one next to my bed. The red color was easy to locate. The book stuck out like a bright beacon among my personal items.
As soon as I woke up from a very disturbing dream, I would write down as much of it as possible. The sheets in the composition book are very thick and easy to write upon with my pen. The lines are easy to see and are spaced wide enough apart for my crazy scribbling as I quickly struggle to write down everything I witnessed in my dream world.
Over a period of several months, the severity of my dreams has dramatically weakened. I seldom have zombie nightmares. My dreams about work, school and church are very brief now. I still dream about seeing dead relatives and friends. It is my belief that my mom's diagnosis of breast cancer triggered the vivid dreaming. It certainly stressed me out. Fortunately, my little red composition book from Mead has been a godsend.

I like the feel of the paper just a little better than Mead's filler paper and some of their spiral bound notebooks, but I'm honestly not quite sure if that's real or just me deluding myself.
This does feel very good for something like ongoing writing, a dream journal, pure notes where you never intend to worry about tearing something out, a book where you can compile your work for something like a poetry project, and generally for people who have a special knack for snagging the wire spirals of other notebooks on things.
The face that this is designed to be sturdy, with the sewn binding and thicker cover, has a sort of psychological boost to the idea that you're working on something permanent that you're going to keep.
If you want to make something really pretty, you can also take a notebook like this and put some fabric or wrapping paper over the cover. There are a whole bunch of tutorials out there on the Internet for how to make something fun and very personalized to you, and also to add features like an elastic band to hold it closed if you want.
