Okay, so having already "met" Wyatt, I was beyond ready for his book. I sure do love a sexy bull-riding cowboy, so to say I was excited would be an understatement, and Ms. Foster delivered!
Wyatt and Gigi met in high school and when people say "opposites attract," they have these two in mind. Wyatt was a cowboy-hat-wearing future bull rider and Gigi was a black-lipstick-wearing goth girl. But they clicked, and right off the bat, their chemistry was very much there. It was undeniable and I loved how much they "got" each other and how they were there, truly there, for each other in times of need and celebration.
Normally, I am not a huge fan of time jumps (past to present to past to present again) because I'm just not a patient human, but the way Amelia Foster developed this story WORKED (same goes for book 1). It allowed me to fully walk the emotional journey that was Wyatt and Gigi's relationship and feel all the emotions: anger, passion, heartbreak, panic, and love. I got to see first hand why some decisions were made and fall in love with the characters even more. Wyatt had done what he thought was best for Georgia 12 years ago, and now, trying to rekindle that love and earn her trust once more proved to be a challenge, but well worth the heartache. THE. FEELS. You guys, Wyatt is a charmer and let me tell ya, get ready because he will make you swoon.
I loved both Wyatt and Gigi and loved, LOVED, even more, their relationship. This was an addictive second-chance romance I highly recommend! A top 2019 fave! FIVE STARS!
PS: Favorite side character - Jake the horse.
Their reconciliation and finding their way back to each other is a steamy, lovely story that goes back and forth in time in a style that actually works.
It works as a standalone. Actually, I'd read the first, but I read so very much I had kind of forgotten it until I got into this story. It definitely can be read without knowing the first couple's story.
Twelve years ago: The h was the new girl in school and she was in full goth mode. The H was instantly smitten with her. They dated until end of senior year. He took off without a word. He spent his time in the bull riding circuit and pursuing his dream.
Present: the H returns home with the intent of redeeming himself and wants to win the h again. He has purchased some property in town and has hired the h to help with developing it. Unbeknownst to her, he bought it for the both of them. She very clearly lays it out there for him that he had hurt her 12 years ago and that she is afraid of getting hurt by him once again. She was hurt by another man she was with when she found out that he was married and had a family. The H runs through all the hoops that she sets out. He explains that he left 12 years ago because he knew she would leave with him if he asked. He also knew that meant her leaving her father by himself. He then made the decision for her.
Likes :There are a lot of flashbacks weaved into the present and dual views in the story. The H was clearly crazy about the h and spent a great deal of time winning her trust the second time around. The h was not a pushover and made him work for her trust. I liked the characters. The h did not wait around for the H and continued to pursue sexual relationships....just like the H. The H in most second chance stories will go on with multiple sex partners during their time apart while the h goes into a deep freeze. Here she did not. It would have been nice if they both waited, but that never happens.
No likes: Did not like that it took 12 years for the characters to reunite. I am not a fan of any period over 5 years.. although 10 seems like some magical timeframe for second chances.
It is a 3.5 star recommend.

Wyatt and Gigi are my favourite kind of couple, hearts and romance combined with sass and sarcasm. Seeing the growth of them as individuals and their interactions from teens to adults is really well done. The writing of the story is beautiful, similarly to the prequel, there are so many phrases and sections I would deem 'quotable' that make you stop for a minute just to appreciate the beauty of the wording.
Romance is my happy place, but finding a book that has characters and a story line that draw me in combined with a writing style that I adore is like magic. This has all three and more!
