This is the first book that I've read by this author, and OMG did I ever LOVE IT! Let's get the clinical points out of the way, so that I can really do some new fan girl gushing! The character development is great, with a highly entertaining cast of secondaries, that I absolutely LOVED! And Holy hotness Batman! The flammable chemistry between Mitch and Sydney, even in their denial, threatened to short circuit my new kindle, and then FINALLY IGNITED into sexy scene goodness that will scorch everything in it's path! Add in some very well placed humor that had me rolling, and surprising suspense, well, you have a fantastic story. Jenna Harte's very talented, and highly addictive writing style had me hook, line, and sinker from the very first sentence. She weaved a rope around me with her amazing story, so that I never moved until the very last sentence, and I have to be honest, found myself ready to beg for more. She threw in some twists, for good measure, that made for intense OMG moments that may or may not have had an f-bomb, or two, dropped along with them. I guess you could say, that she flipped the switch to my dramatic girly girl emotions, but honestly, it wasn't just a story, it was a journey that transported me into her world. I'll stop with the gushing now, and just HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND Meant to Be, and Jenna Harte to ALL!
Mitch McKenna is damaged goods. Heartbreak, war, and grief all plague his thoughts and prevent him from living a full life in small town Virginia. He keeps women at arm's length and never allows his heart to even come close to loving anyone other than his family.
The reason? Well, she just walked right back into his life.
Sydney isn't the same woman she was before, when Mitch was by her side. No longer a student, dependent on her parents and under their influence. Sydney is now an independent doctor with a different view of the world. After a terrifying incident in New York, she has a new plan: to medically contribute to society the best she can and win Mitch's forgiveness. Maybe even his heart...
But Mitch isn't having it. One look at the woman who crushed him and he wants nothing to do with her no matter how much every one around him dotes on the new doctor. However, after a shocking tragedy occurs, it seems that Sydney's situation in New York may have followed her down to Virginia.
When Sydney is endangered, Mitch cannot stop himself from wanting to protect her. Even if it means keeping her close by while he investigates her case and tries to solve it before harm can come to her.
Of course, being this close to one another can stir old feelings, and even some new ones. Soon, the two agree to allow themselves to have a physical relationship, but with absolutely no feelings involved. Should work out, right? Don't they always?
The plot wasn't anything new but I love second chance romances so it was easy for me to root for the couple. The dialogue flowed well and the pacing was near perfect. I enjoyed the secondary characters and the little mystery within the story, though I definitely did not predict who the culprit would be!
I can't wait to read more stories set in this small town. Four hot southern suns!
