4.5 Stars from Literary Nymph Reviews Only
"Ms. Blackthorne did a good job with the period background, while giving a peak into the scandalous part of the Regency time period... I am looking forward to reading more of this series." ~ Amazon Nymph, May 16, 2012

Anne Bourchier, Lady Cranfield, has a crippling secret she's trying to hide from the world. That is until she meets Jonathan Lloyd, Earl of Ruel. In Jonathan, she sees a possible solution to her problem, if only she has the courage to trust in him.

Trust is a big issue in this book, as with many romance novels. But in this case, this Regency-period tale takes it a step further, into a place many people wonder about but are a little afraid of: BDSM.

The BDSM and Anne's introduction to submission are handled very well. It is generally realistic and compelling. We are drawn into the personalities of the characters and want to see them work out their needs, both as independent beings and as a couple.

The pace, setting, and plot development for this novel were well done. I found the characters to be well-rounded and believable. It was a very enjoyable book and I have no reservation about giving it a 5-star rating. Get yourself a copy and get ready to be transported.

A Measured Risk by Natasha Blackthorne is a beautiful and captivating historical erotic romance that will carry you away to Regency Era England and into the life of a young woman who is crippled by fear and has closed herself off from the world.

I very highly recommend this book! The author took me away to another time and place, with a story that completely consumed me. I was lost in Regency Era England and did not want to come back to reality. I adored both Lady Cranfield and the Earl of Ruel.

I am hopelessly in love with the Earl of Ruel and I don't care if he's a fictional character! Experience the elegant, and frequently excessive life of the privileged during this romantic era. This story is a bit different than other Regency Era stories you have probably read. The heat level is high and the story has a bit of a twist that makes it fresh and unique. I still don't want to leave the world of Lady Cranfield and the Earl of Ruel.

I've been wanting to read Ms Blackthorne's books for a while and this is the first one I have had the opportunity to read. I was expecting a great read, but it totally exceeded my expectations! I have become an instant fan of her writing and I cannot wait to get my hands on more of her books. If you like historical fiction and enjoy erotic romance, then I strongly encourage you to check out her books!

I have read both Regency and Erotica books, but I had never read an Erotic Regency book, so my interest was piqued. I was pleasantly surprised when I read A Measured Risk. Lady Anne Cranfield loses her husband to a horrific accident that leaves her emotionally scarred and terrified of her once beloved horses. Though she had been in a loveless marriage, Anne has a hard time moving on because of the tragedy. She has always been socially awkward and does not trust others easily. She prefers to rely on herself for all things and has few friends. The problem is she can’t overcome her crippling fear of horses to be able to travel back to her family’s home. Lord Jonathan Ruel, a guest at her in-laws home, offers to help her overcome her fears. Is he truly trying to help her, or does he have ulterior motives when he secludes her from society to cure her of her fear?
While the book was very steamy and explored all sides of Anne’s sexuality, the sex didn’t overshadow the main story. The characters were well developed and interesting, even with their clothes on. Anne’s domination by Ruel was woven into the story and added a crucial layer to her figuring out who she really was and what she wanted out of a relationship. Her husband had treated her badly, but she comes to realize that perhaps it wasn’t because of her cold nature. She could express herself sexually and confidently with a man, the right man, a man who truly understood her.
I was happy that Anne didn’t fall immediately into a Ruel’s arms and expect him to take care of her. She was a strong-minded and independent woman who didn’t allow her emotions to rule her decisions. She had a hard time accepting people into her life and needed to be able to trust them.

From the cover art and the blurb, I was certain that I would love every moment of "A Measured Risk." The woman on the cover isn't skinny or perfect, but a woman. Then to read her dedication talking about PTSD and modern BDSM, D/s practices and lifestyles- what a lovely touch. I enjoyed getting to know the character of Lady Cranfield and her history, about her unhappy marriage and how one accident changed her life completely. Watching the young widow and the dashing Ruel interact kept me reading long after I should have gone many a night. The subtle interplay between them as he took the control that she uncertainly gave carried a fascinating story; of course it doesn't generally work that easily or well in a modern D/s relationship where a Dominant is trying to help a submissive, but I found how much Natasha managed to show within a historical romance wonderful. I most definitely loved that the story was told from Lady Cranfield's perspective; how rich it was to read her inner thoughts as she struggled to come to terms with what she wanted from Ruel, the propriety of her wishes, and how he helped her recover from her trauma. I was delighted to find how arousing, how graphic the sex scenes where within the period of the group. I look forward to reading other of Natasha's books.
