Best design for tire pressure gauge at reasonable price.

This gauge probably has the best design I have seen. It is small, digital, easy to use, bright red for easy finding, highly accurate, and comes with a tread depth tool. However, my favorite feature is overlooked by many customers. The battery can be saved by simply opening the compartment, removing the battery, and storing the battery in the free space inside. Then, when you use the gauge three months later or whenever, you resintall the battery and it won’t be dead. Accordingly, this capability almost completely eliminates the drawback of digital gauges. See pics. Other digital gauges I have seen do not allow the battery to be saved nearly this easily. This battery issue with digital gauges has caused some people to use mechanical gauges instead. However, complex mechanical gauges have a bigger drawback: they are more susceptible to damage via drops.

(Don't) Trust but Verify Used Car Dealer

For some reason this is among very few digital tread readers that can read in 32nds. For that reason or perhaps the additional coding and gadgetry inside this is twice or three times more expensive than the rest of its competitors. However, it is well worth the money. I was buying a used car and the dealership claimed the tires had adequate tread and didn't need to replace it. Not taking their word for it I went and checked and verified that they were not lying. After quickly learning how to use it, and researching the laws on tire tread depth I went and checked all my cars. Now I will know exactly when to replace my tires and not let the tire stores and garage mechanics hang me out to dry every time I take my car for an oil change. I can just take my handy dandy tire tread reader and read the tires and then tell them to either stuff it or negotiate on new tires. Yes, you can negotiate new tires - especially when you caught them in the act of attempting to bamboozle you into buying tires when yours aren't ready to go to the ol' scrap tire heap just yet. Let them save face and you get a good deal on new tires. This doohickey does it all.

Purchased this digital tire gauge 4 yrs ago. Thought it would be a handy gadget/tool to have because I didn't really need it. Good thing I didn't need because after using only 3 or 4 times, it stopped working. Want even turn on. Thought battery was the problem. Changed the battery and it still would not turn on. When it worked, it was accurate and easy to read. However, I'm giving 1 star because it stopped working after hardly any use.

I bought this because of all the positive reviews. I was excited to receive it and try it out. The first tire I checked it worked great, but I noticed as I pushed it over the valve stem that the body of the gauge began to split apart. When I checked the pressure on the second tire the metal ring around collar popped off and the gauge came apart at the seam. After it cam apart the mode button wouldn’t work and I only got to check the pressure in one tire. It’s a great idea. I don’t know if I got the only defective one out there but the quality control needs to be better.

Gives tire depth reading along tire surface easily and the Large LCD screen makes viewing easy. The air pressure portion was a bit finicky. Requires a 90° angle on the valve to get the reading or it starts to read erratically.
You can adjust the unit for inches or centimeters. Durability- Based on the plastic housing, Don't put it on your key ring. I don't think it can survive a pounding of clacking key rings, better to use it and store it.

I really like this little thing.

Pros:

1. Reads accurately.
2. Easy to store in your glove box - not too big
3. due to the battery, 2032, it'll last a long time in my glove box.
4. It has conversion for x/32, which is standard that most people use in US.

cons:

1. 2032 battery is expensive.
2. For the price, I wish the display had little more, but it's not bad.

I haven't used the tire gauge yet, but as soon as I do I'll update the review. But overall so far, it's not so bad.

Accurate Pressure and Tire Gauge(s)

Surprisingly accurate. The tire gauge is, at most, off by 1/64", far better then most the other tire gauges I've tried (I used calibrated digital calipers to test). And the tire gauge is spot on as well. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is the build quality feels a bit cheap/flimsy. I suppose that's in keeping with the price-point, but still... Definitely recommended.

MS-48B pressure/depth gauge

I like this gauge. It is very compact. The display is large and easy to read. Also has red, yellow, green scale for tread depth. It does take a second or so to give tire pressure reading. The gauge can be set for different units of measure. I use psi and 32nds of an inch. It is very accurate. Good to keep in glovebox or toolbox. Recommend keep one in all your vehicles. You should check your tire pressure occasionally to get the most use out of them. PSI lights in today's cars will only come on after a tire has lost about 20% of its set cold pressure. Your tires may be low on air and you don't know it. If standard pressure is 32psi your light won't come on until it reaches 25.6psi. This will greatly reduce the life of your tires. I work in a dealership and we get a lot of customers with psi light concerns. You can't look at a tire and tell if it's properly inflated. Many times we find all the tires are equally low which indicates they haven't been checked in a long time. People also get charged because we don't work for free. This gauge is much cheaper than a trip to the dealer. I say save time, tires, money and unnecessary expense and buy a tire gauge. Also use this tire gauge. Not only will you and the world be safer but you will also have more jingle in your pocket.
