She is being mocked at school. Her mother barely considers her as normal. She has only one friend.
So she decided to take a leap of work and go to the gym to train throughout the summer.
It's hard. She hates it, but it feels her with purpose. She is there to prove them wrong, but she is also there for herself. And then, she meets Tegan, a handsome guy who would totally have laughed at her at school... And her personal trainer. Surprisingly, he is not what she thought he would be and begins to fall for him. Hard.
Okay. Cute story.
Annabel is not a confident person, but I get it. Tegan has a lot on his plate and I get it too.
I just don't understand their decisions. It makes no sense whatsoever. I feel the characters do it because it is what the reader EXPECTS them to do.
So I recommend this book if you want a time off, as an easy read. Just don't expect to fall heads over heels for them.
My heart broke for Annabel; she was treated horribly at school because of her weight issues and when she was home her mom wasn't any better when the subject of Annabel's weight came up. Annabel is fed up after an incident on the last day of junior year and decides to spend her summer losing weight. I would say she initially starts out trying to please others but then begins to do it for herself; it is then that she truly succeeds. Annabel lacks some confidence and has never been kissed. She is kind and sees beyond the outward appearance of others and that is what makes the fact that she was bullied even worse.
Tegan is cute and in shape and happens to be assigned to train Annabel at the gym. He genuinely cares that Annabel succeeds and quickly begins to see her for what is in the inside rather than the outside. Annabel is different from other girls and Tegan has a hard time realizing that not everything she does has an ulterior motive. It doesn't help that he has a chip on his shoulder and feels an overwhelming responsibility to take care of his family. How can a young man balance it all?
Tegan and Annabel's working relationship evolves into a friendship and then more at a nice realistic pace. It was realistic and sweet but not without a few challenges. Annabel must learn she is worthy of a boy like Tegan's love and Tegan must learn that he doesn't have to pay for others issues and mistakes his whole life. They both have to learn to let go and follow their hearts.
I highly recommend this for anyone who likes a multi-layered YA Romance! I couldn't wait to see if Annabel accomplished her goals, if she silenced her bullies and moved on past her insecurities and if Tegan would realize the weight of the world wasn't meant to be carried on his shoulders!
Annabel Conoway, was teased at school for her weight by everyone but her friend Em. Even her mom indirectly fit into this teasing. She finally decides to do something about it on the sly, not even her best friend knows about it. I mean that's pretty big, us girls tell our BFFs everything, so you know it was really important for her to actually make it through. Annabel shows up at "Let's get Physical," genius name for a gym btw Nyrae, it takes her a few times to actually make it into the gym, but in the process stumbles upon Tegan. She helps him out with his family then walks into the gym to find out the guy she called, gym boy, was her trainer.
Tegan is awesome. He has his own issues to work out, but is able to give Annabel Lee, what he calls her, the, motivation and confidence she needed to work toward her goal. Along the way they end up feeling more for each other than a normal trainer/trainee relationship and Tegan asks Annabel out on a date. I have to admit it was a totally perfect date! OH and the first kiss, fireworks! Of course other things happen but you will have to read that! Like any other love story, there has to be some twist to the story, I mean it can't always be perfect right? Well during a break, think of it more as a growing experience, Annabel was able to realize she never needed Tegan to stand up, she could do it all on her own. At the same time, Tegan realized that he didn't have to take care of everyone he loved.
In the end HEA! The most important thing to take from this story, well what I took, is that no matter what YOU can do anything YOU set YOUR mind to. Weight has always been an issue for me, I think this book just gave me the motivation and pep talk I needed to get my booty in gear...Now where is Tegan? Thank you Nyrae for another awesome book! I told you me and Annabel would hit it off!
