Lots of things I liked that were done well, good characterizations, though a bit more romance that I generally prefer for most of my mysteries. A horse connection as well, which always grabs me if it's done well, which it was for the most part.

Decent plot line and decent characterization, but hit one of my 'pet peeves' for books at the very end ... it didn't actually end. I like series but I want a story line that tells a complete story within that book. There was a partial ending with some of the issues resolved, but the actual ending was both main characters packing to follow the 'bad guys'. No, sorry ... that doesn't count as an ending for me, so it went from "liked" to "OK".

I really enjoyed the story. The plot kept the reader guessing and wanting more when it ended. This author gives the reader an opportunity to "see" the locations she was referring to in her story. She draws the reader into the story as her characters are very likable and interesting! I am looking forward to the sequel!

I liked the main character Jo, and the way her mind worked. Murder, mayhem and mystery are intertwined along with very well written visuals. Picturing each scene was easy as this writer has the talent to write without overly describing the environment. A very pleasurable read, with twists and turns made this a book that was difficult to put down until the end. Mechanics of Murder was published in 2005. I have read one of RaeAnne's later books and see that she has grown as a writer!! Very good RaeAnne!! Looking forward to more of your work!

This book left me scratching my head at times. There are too many leaps of logic to make it believable. Why would someone try to run them over for looking at an accident scene, which they never said they were investigating until later in the story. Why did they start investigating Gary? Why are the bad guys so stupid? Why doesn't Jo spend any time with her competition horses except on Sundays and occasional Saturdays? Why doesn't Steve behave like a real person? Why does Jo agonize over her independence?

I really enjoyed this book. It was great to see Jo working in such a male dominated profession. She was a great character and I easily could relate to her. Steve was a very patient hero, but with Jo's fly by the seat of her pants attitude it really worked. Then we throw in a murder, and some danger, and what more can you ask for?

Well I finished this book in less than 24 hours. every chance I had I read it. I loved the fact that this book had horses in it. I am a horse lover. I also love to read murder mystery. It gave me the best of both worlds. And to be honest I am not one to gripe over how a book was edited. It did not take away from the story. And to have a woman be a mechanic was even better. Because I too was one at one point in my life. This is now the 3rd book I have read by RaeAnne. I love the way she can keep my attention. That is not an easy task to keep me on point. I the only down side was the ended it was a cliff hanger, but I understand why it was done. This is the first book in a series. Need to keep the reader wanting more and boy do I want more!!!

I don't know why this book got such good reviews. The story rambles on, and so do the run-on sentences. This book is in serious need of a good editor. The author frequently uses incorrect words, such as when describing circumstances in Shane's death that don't make sense. "I told Steve about these indiscretions..." HUH??? The correct word is "inconsistencies" not "indiscretions." The author sometimes uses the right descriptions, even using some big words, then messes up the sentence with improper use of "it's" vs "its." Did the author actually re-read this book before it was published (or after) - did anybody???

The dialogue between Jo and Steve is stilted and often they sound like 2 teenagers, and Jo especially acts like a schoolgirl around Steve, blushing, getting tongue-tied, even quivering! every time he looks at her - PLEASE!!!! She's nearly 30 years old, the only female automotive technician in her shop, better at her work than some of the others, and has stood her ground with her male chauvinistic coworkers and nasty customers. But, her knees turn to jelly when Steve is near. I can't tell if this book is supposed to be a romance with a murder thrown in, or a murder mystery with a little romance. Either way, it fails on both counts.

Some of Jo's musings seem to indicate they've had a long-standing romantic relationship, when up until the middle of the story, the only contact they have is a business relationship because they work for the same company. Then she makes a comment "He knew he had never pressured me to spend less time with my horses and when I had explained how important the show was to me, he was helping me pack up the truck and trailer.
