Tube breaks 3 times
3 out of 5 stars
Tube breaks 3 times
This is third time tube end breaks. First time it happened after using a pump 4 months and company replaced it easy in just one call. After it happened after just right after 6 months and company said “we are sorry ur aare out of warranty” and then just said i need to find it online. I explained I ordered online and came wrong item ( i still didn’t find right tube, they didn’t care. Finally my husband somehow fix it “on the knees” And now is third time it happened. My Conclusion is very poor quality plastic. The pump itself is ok.

    Background:
I am now pumping exclusively, as I did with my firstborn nine years ago. Back then, I rented a Medela Lactina and bought a Medela Pump in Style. I had pumped for a year with success - but also with a bit of tolerable pain. This time, I'm renting a new Medela Symphony (with a comfy "let down" phase) and I'm thrilled with it. No pain, much quieter and prettier than the Lactina. Since I still had my (expensive!) old Pump in Style, I thought I'd use it as my on-the-go pump again. I tested it once, decided it was uncomfortable but acceptable, and packed it for a long day out. Three pumps later, I was in agony, which lasted for days. I don't know if I'm spoiled by the Symphony or just way more sensitive with age, but that old Pump in Style had to go.

Medela Swing - why and how it worked for me:
I couldn't be more pleased by the comfortable, tiny Swing. I use it at least once a day, and always on AA batteries. I had looked at getting the new dual-phase version of the Pump in Style, or the Freestyle, but learned via research that the cheaper Swing model (plus a special tube accessory, ordered on Amazon too) works for many as a double pump. It worked for me, probably helped by my strong flow (naturally so), and also by my frequent pumping on the hospital grade Symphony. If you try this "hack," search for "Tubing Set for Converting a Medela Swing Breastpump Into a Double-pump" to find the T-shaped tube on Amazon. You will also need to buy a second set of breastshield/valve/membranes if you don't already have extras.

Note: With the Swing I get 1/2 to 3/4 the amount of breast milk as I get with the Symphony in the same amount of time - not bad for a portable option. My typical Symphony pump is 10 oz in 20 min.

My three-month-old baby is not a good nurser, so I need to pump a few times a day to maintain my milk supply. I didn't want to spend much money on a pump before I knew for sure I was going to continue with breast/pump feeding instead of switching to formula, so I purchased the Medela Harmony manual pump first. I used the Harmony pump several times a day and felt it worked well, but eventually I got tired of the length of time it took to pump, not to mention my hands were getting tired of squeezing the pump all the time! I decided I was going to continue nursing/pumping and chose to buy an electric pump. I bought the Medela Swing because of its reasonable price. I absolutely fell in love with it the first time I tried it! It's the only electric pump I've ever used, but I find it extremely easy to use and the suction feels much stronger on its highest setting than the Harmony manual pump. It is more efficient and I can pump more ounces with the Swing at one time than I ever could with the Harmony manual pump. The milk does occasionally get sucked up into the tubing, but the pump comes with easy-to-follow instructions on how to clean it out if this happens. (I should also note that when the milk gets sucked into the tube, the milk gets into the pump mechanism itself and NOT the motor, therefore milk getting sucked into the tube does not cause the pump to seize or stop working.) I have had to clean out the pump on occasion and it is still working well. Despite this minor annoyance, I still think this is a great pump for the price and would certainly recommend it!

Writing this review after 4 days of use. Useful product, really works well. It was hard to get milk for the first two days and thought it wont work. But tried with different holding techniques and different pumping pattern and was successful getting the result. Takes about 40 minutes to get 100 ml. Need patience and keep trying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't ask for better.

I needed to express my milk in addition to breast feeding, I get loads of milk in the mornings but I always seem to run low in the afternoons, and my baby gets so frustrated with it, and expressing meant he didn't keep constantly trying to feed on what little bits of milk I had - giving me a chance to catch up with him.

I originally bought a cheap manual pump thinking "how hard can it be" but after only a short time having sore grazed nipples and never being able to express more than 2oz with it, I decided to invest in an electric one.
I looked at all available models and reviews - and with them all being about the same or not too different in price I went for the Medela Swing because it's a Which best buy and had the best reviews.

Ok, so it's not cheap but is it worth it? Well for me yes - it is a godsend! I can express 4oz in about 20 mins which I think is amazing!

It's not too loud despite people saying how noisy the electric pumps are, so I can express while he's sleeping and not worry about disturbing him.

It's comfortable to use, you can choose the level of suction which is great!

Cleaning it is easy, there are minimal parts and they're easy to assemble.

The breast shield that comes with the pump seems quite big, I wouldn't consider myself to have small nipples but had to buy the smaller shield as it was sucking some of the areola in (which the manufacturer suggests could be painful with continued use) but shop around for the personal fit shields as I've seen some sellers charging a fortune for them! (Mine cost £12.99 but have seen some for sale at £75!).

The Calma teat is brilliant! The baby has to suckle the teat in the same way it would a breast or no milk comes out - this really helps if your baby starts learning to be lazy with normal teats.

The only con I can think of; The lead isn't very long so if you're not using it with batteries then you need to be sitting next to a plug socket.

Happy well fed baby and no sore nipples!

    I highly recommend this pump.
