About the Author

Tory Zellick, CMT blogs about careviging for The Huffington Post and has been a featured expert in top media outlets including CNN, ABC, and NBC. When she was 18, Zellick was like every other high school graduate—until the day her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Suddenly, with no prior experience or training, Zellick found herself responsible for managing all aspects of her motherÆs care. Not only did Zellick start keeping track of everything related to her motherÆs medical, legal, and insurance matters, but she went so far as to study massage—empowering her to lower her motherÆs pain levels. Now a decade later and three years after her motherÆs passing, Zellick has published The Medical Day Planner: The Guide to Help Navigate the Medical Maze (Victory Belt Publishing, June 2012). The book is a step-by-step, ailment-neutral guide on how to tackle each aspect of caring for oneself or a loved one who is ill.

I have one of these books on hand...just in case. It takes only a day to become overwhelmed with the complexities of caregiving. First you get the bad news (what was that Doctor's name?). Your mom can't go home (what is her neighbor's phone number?). You need a hospital bed (the nurse gave me a name of a medical supplier...what was it?). You'll need to pick up prescription meds (what was the name of the pharmacy?). Who was that social worker? What were the precautions? The OT taught me log rolling...how does that go, again? Mom can't have grapefruit as it interferes with the medications...right?
You need the medical day planner to help sort out and keep track all of the details. Have it ready. Your time will come.

As a Father I have experienced two very difficult life threatening long term "critical care" situations in my family. My wife and I wish we had this Medical Day Planner during those trying times. It would have been a valuable tool to help us organize the enormous amounts of information we were forced to deal with. This planner is incredible! It is well written and organized, completely understandable, thoughtful and very thorough. For us this book would have indeed been a "guide" through the chaos. It provides a practical straightforward approach for all aspects of medical treatment. Tory Zellick's book includes sections for appointments, medications, specific tests and treatments, necessary phone numbers, hospitalizations, and procedures and personal notes. It's also a handy size and can fit in any purse, backpack or briefcase. If you are facing a medical caregiving situation, it is usually a very stressful time. You will need this book. Don't hesitate to buy it!

The Medical Day Planner is a treasure trove both for patients and those who care for them. Its uniqueness resides in the fact that it contains a number of places in which to enter important information such as prescriptions, appointments, and procedure history. Everything the caregiver needs is found in this one convenient and comprehensive spiral-bound book. The various sections are tabbed for ease in locating phone numbers, scans, etc. The book concludes with a 52-week day planner. As both a patient and a former caregiver for my parents, I highly recommend this product for its value as a resource and organizational tool.

My mom is recovering from a massive pulmonary embolism that almost took her life and I was looking for something to help me keep all of her information organized until I found this. This book is a must have for anyone who is traversing the medical maze whether as a caretaker or as the one who is ailed. I am able to keep all of my mothers appointments, medications, contact info, doctors names, notes on doctor visits, requirements, and the list goes on! Please do yourself a favor and purchase this book, you will not be sorry.

The Medical Day Planner is a thorough tool for tracking medical care for anyone. Although the planner (and it so much more than a planner) is especially helpful to caregivers, it also works well for anyone keeping track of their own medical history, which seems to become more eventful the older we get. The planner is divided up into sections: Patient Information (contact information, allergies, restrictions, etc), Phone Book (medical provider contact information), Medication, Appointments, Treatments, Procedure History, Test and Scan History, Hospitalizations, Notes and a 52 week Day Planner. Each section contains a description of the type of information that should be included there, plus plenty of clearly labeled fields to be filled in.

Whether you are a single caregiver or sharing the burden with other caregivers, the organization and structure provided in this guide can help make this part of the journey less overwhelming and provide a sense of control over the information and situation. And if you aren't a caregiver at this point it certainly doesn't hurt to track your own medical history. I'm filling mine in right now.

This book is just amazing. After dealing with several family members that needed medical care, I was always aghast and lost while trying
to keep all of the medications, doctor appointments, things to remember about ups and downs that the physician needed to be told so as to access
the situation of the patient! This book has it all. "The Medical Day Planner" has it all set up so that you do not even have to think about it.
It reminds you of many things that you may not even think of while dividing the each category in well thought out sections with an
"at a glance" ease. Bravo Tory Zellick. Thank you for helping us all during such trying times to be the best caretaker that we can be for our loved ones.

Originally, I took this book to work because I know the gal who wrote it. I was touched by her story, and wanted to share it with my co-workers. I casually shared it with a couple of my clients (I'm a hairdresser), and quickly found out that almost every one of them could appreciate this book in some way. I'm flabbergasted by the number of my clients that are, or have been, caregivers!

I get a narrated version of this planner every time I have a client in my chair. I can't speak from experience as a caregiver, but I can speak on my clients' behalves. This book is easy to follow, helpful, and allows you to care for those you love...instead of spending all of your energy "navigating the medical maze".

The Medical Day Planner now sits at my station as part of the decor.
All of my clients sing praise about this planner, and many have made a beeline for the bookstore to buy one.
