The premise is captivating, especially for a strategy game. Starting out as a small kingdom in medieval Europe and then smashing your way to the top will most likely hold your attention for a while, and it will be tense and exciting as you vie for power with rivals, but the problem is the late game. Once your kingdom reaches a certain size it becomes nigh impossible for the computer controlled A.I. to beat you; your armies are too big and you are too practiced. There is no threat of a cunning counter-attack or a brilliant ambush or a game-changing engagement. It also becomes incredibly tedious to manage your empire. In effect, the focus shifts from a conquering perspective to a beaurocratic one. For me, I lost interest at that point. Up until then, though, the game was obsessive. It was so fun that it literally ate a week of my life. Six hours a day was spent fighting training up units and beating my enemies to a pulp. I was also very attracted to the historical aspect of the game, as every building and unit in the game was accompanied by a historical explanation of their origins and abilities. I thoroughly enjoyed that part and still do, but the actual gameplay, despite a large variety of units, terrains and tactics, gets stale in the late game.

It's a Total War series game. I had fun with it for a while, but empire becomes less manageable as it grows. The explanation for the gay assassin was funny. Either the Pope hates you or you won't get very far with your wars. Leaders become bored and disloyal if they don't get choice assignments. AI opponents gang against you and the price of friendship is very high. Merchants were basically useless as AI opponents targeted them and quickly picked them off. The priests and princesses and assassins were fun and useful. The small details multiplied as my empire grew.

Amazing game with all sorts of possibility. Although it eventually becomes a little predictable, I find it fun and fascinating. I have found that the SEGA and its collaborators takes a historical approach to their games by adding features that apply not only to the player, but also to the time period for when the game takes place. I find this extremely helpful and amazing.

Great games. I love the gameplay, graphics a little lacking but it's an older game so not too bad, the mods out there to add extra story lines really make the game fun. They could have done a more intensive story line in the game, its lame but thank goodness you can make your own, or download some really awesome ones.

Still the great game I remember it being. A tad bit glitchy at times, but that's probably because of my computer. Download was smooth and efficient.
