Andrew Langley started writing professionally over thirty years ago to accompany his work as a photojournalist. In a wide-ranging career that has seen him travel the world, his work has featured in national newspapers, a number of books and on television. With the onset of multiple sclerosis, Andrew now lives a more sedentary lifestyle, creating his new adventures on paper. Andrew's debut novel, 'Mirror on the Soul', was published in 2015. His second novel, 'Dark Nights of the Soul', is due for release on Halloween 2016.

    Good history lesson book with lots of photos and short descriptions, focused on what Medieval people wore, how they furnished their living space, what they used for dishes, windows, shoes, musical instruments. Not really about castles or knights, but more about the rest of society in that time frame. What they made out of leather, or horn, wood, etc. Used it for our 10 yo studying this time period as a homeschool unit, with other books about castles and armor.

    Great photos. Each spread provides detail on one aspect of medieval life in an interesting and very brief format. The only possible complaint is that in achieving the necessary brevity they paint with too broad a brush and do not always provide necessary context and detail. But for the photos alone it is worthwhile.

    DK eyewitness books are always the way to go! The high-quality photography and short, but informative explanations cover all aspects of the subject, and are great for use at home or at school. Knights and peasants, castles and fields... learn all about them in this book and let the Medieval world come alive! Great for kids even as young as 5, as the pictures are of such quality and information alone!

    As a Middle School Humanities teacher, I assigned this to my students as part of their summer reading. DK Eyewitness Books are uniformly engaging, and when students returned in September, many told me how much they loved this book. The images are excellent, the text highly descriptive, and the end result is that the students, their curiosity piqued, were ready to learn more. The book sat on my bedside table for about a week, and each night I read a few pages, and from my reading, developed ideas for classes, and research projects. Even for kids outside of a school setting, this is a great volume to have.

    My 7th grade Language Arts students are reading and discussing Avi’s “Crispin: The Cross of Lead” in our class, and I wanted to be able to provide them some basic background information on the period. This DK Eyewitness book on Medieval Life does the job beautifully. It provides a great introduction to the various aspects of life in the Middle Ages with a wonderful balance between text and visually arresting photographs that had my students keen to discover more about the period. Highly recommended.

    I LOVE the DK books, we have many, this is another good one. Bought it for my son to supplement his history curriculum (he's schooled at home). These books are always well-organized with lots of easily digestible information. I enjoy them as much (maybe more!) than he does.
