The Mediflow Waterbase Pillow is Your Best Choice
The Mediflow Waterbase pillow was ranked best of all pillows tested in a clinical study at Johns Hopkins University. In fact, study participants ranked Mediflow best in every category tested! The unique Mediflow pillow has a top 5” layer of soft hypo-allergenic polyester fiber with a thin water pouch on the bottom which provides user-adjustable support for the neck. Most soft polyester filled pillows feel good at first but collapse during the night, interrupting sleep for constant fluffing and re-stuffing. Some memory foam pillows are great for neck support but are too hard on the face and head to sleep on all night. With the Mediflow Waterbase pillow you get the soft comfort needed to achieve sleep quickly and the customizable support from the waterbase to maintain support to reduce sleep interruptions. The waterbase adjusts automatically as you move during sleep!
Clinically Proven Best in All 5 Categories Tested
- Length of time to achieve sleep
- Number of sleep interruptions
- Length of time to regain sleep
- Perception of sleep quality
- Reduction of neck pain intensity
How The Mediflow Pillow Works
The Mediflow Waterbase responds to your head movement automatically as you sleep to maintain proper support for your neck. Your head rests on a soft, plump layer of hypoallergenic polyester fiber which is supported by a thin waterbase at the bottom of the pillow. Simply adjust the firmness of your pillow by adding (or removing) the amount of water that provides the perfect level of support for you, soft, medium or firm. You won’t wake up multiple times every night to fluff and re-stuff because the Mediflow waterbase maintains the support you need.
The Mediflow is the perfect pillow for all -- whether you’re big or small or prefer soft or firm! You can buy pillows for the entire family and they can all adjust them to their own perfect support level. Over 4 million people trust their sleep to Mediflow -- try it today and you will see why. If you don’t agree that our pillow gives you a better night sleep or reduces your neck pain we will take it back within 30 days of purchase.

The pillow is a combination of a cushion and a parallel bag for water. The instructions show the method of standing the pillow on its end on a chair, and firmly pushing on the upper part to get out the unwanted air pocket after using the provided funnel to pour the water in. The test for seeing if the air pocket has been squeezed out is supposed to be checking to see if the pillow sloshes - If it does, the instructions say to do the process over. We did this numerous times over the course of two days, and no matter how much or little water we poured in, and how hard the two of us together pushed to squeeze out the air pocket, the pillow would still slosh loudly like an old water bed. We wrote to the company explaining our problem. They replied quickly, but basically just repeated the same instructions we already had.
We did finally find the solution:-- Test the pillow ON THE BED where you're going to use it. Unlike what the instructions say, the test is NOT to expect no sloshing if you're just holding the pillow - it will always slosh. The test is putting it on the bed, and seeing if there's any annoying sloshing when you lay down, put your head on it, and try it out.
It was a drag we hassled with this so long simply because the instructions are not accurate and should be rewritten.
Now that the pillow has been used for about two months, my wife is happy enough with it, finds it firm and supportive without being too unyielding. It's not necessarily The Best Pillow she's ever used, but feels it's doing the job she expected.
SO - the lesson is: Test for sloshing with the pillow in position on your bed, not in the kitchen where you've filled it with water.
Now with that said if you've never had a water based pillow before and you’re thinking of trying one let me give you some insight from experience.
If you’re someone who wants to just pull the pillow out of the box, fill it with water and expect to sleep like a baby the first night you could find yourself disappointed. You may need some patience with this pillow if you don’t get a good night’s sleep the first night. You also may need some attention to detail. First you need to understand that it may take a few night of adjusting the water in the pillow to get it to the point that it is comfortable for you. If you don’t have the patience then you’ll end up frustrated and disappointed that you spent money on it. Second, if you find you do need to adjust the pillow you may want to pay attention to how much water you add or remove from the pillow when you’re adjusting it. As little as an ounce of water added or removed will significantly change how the pillow feels, at least that is what I've found over the years of having them. You have to be willing to play with to get it just right. The good news is once you reach that point you won’t have to do anything more.
I've had people ask about the water inside and mold and what have you. I just emptied my second pillow before throwing it out. There was not one sign of mold or any smell to the water when I emptied it and the pillow was as I stated earlier about 10 years old. Unlike one reviewer's recommendation to use a little bleach, I have never added anything to the water and the water always comes out as clean as was the day I added it. Actually, I would hesitate to add anything additional to the water whereas it may damage the inside water chamber over time and potentially reduce the life of the pillow but that is just my opinion. Both my first and second Mediflow pillows lasted 10 years of every night use and were only replaced due to leaks they developed as a result of age.
I just received my third pillow yesterday and slept on it for the first night last night. The quality of these pillows is still there and once I filled it to where it was comfortable for me, I slept soundly and got up this morning without one ounce of neck or shoulder pain. I can’t recommend them enough to people providing they understand that sometimes a little patience provides a huge payback in feeling good in the morning when you get up.
One other thing mentioned by other reviewers was that the pillow had a slight smell to it when it was removed from the box. The pillow I received had no noticeable smell. I filled it, put it on the bed and slept on it the first night without a problem.
I'd without hesitation give this pillow more than 5 stars if I could! I hope this helps anyone whose considering purchasing one.
