The “why” of meditation which motivates me to create a daily practice to clear the clutter in my mind
Short digestible sections with inspirational quotes to keep me motivated
The simple steps of the “how to meditate section”: how to breath and let it be
Book is packed with so much knowledge, it could be good if each chapter had a short experiential practice session at the end to break it up.
Didn’t see it in there- I would also add in insightimer app as a tool that could help with meditation.
In the FAQ you mention a common myth such as “I don’t have time to meditate” and I feel this could also be a section in itself— you cover it a bit in “Just Do It Section” although time management to set aside time to do meditation could be good starting point.
After reading this book on meditation, I better understood:
- We don’t have to believe in meditation to enjoy its benefits.
- We just need to show up a few minutes each day to recapture what is already within us.
- Use my breath to control the weather inside of me and carry the weather wherever I go.
I found this book an inspiring way to keep my motivation up, explain to my friends why the heck do I meditate and how to make it an easy and enjoyable daily habit.
Okay I am off to meditate :)
Perhaps the book would benefit from a quick edit as I noticed a couple of typos and the later section felt compressed, which is a shame because the author introduced many topics that I found myself wanting to know more about. It would be great to learn about these ideas in more detail.
That said, Michael Balchan is clearly enthusiastic about the subject matter, the book has a good pace and these potentially hard-to-grasp topics are presented in a fun and easy to digest way. I like how often he emphasizes the importance of actually implementing the information, rather than just studying it!
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about meditation and I've already recommended it to my Dad. This book is very accessible however I think the content would benefit from being opened out more (and correct the typos!).
I've been meditating for about a year now but was never quite able to explain it to my family and friends in a way that they understood. Not any more! I've shared this book with my friend who recently started meditating and she's diggin' it! It gives her the words to explain the benefits she is experiencing through meditation.
I'm a public defender by trade, and I can honestly say that meditation has had a big impact on the work that I do. It helps me remain calm and focused throughout the many facets of my job, especially stress! I hope Michael makes a print copy so I can gift this book to my clients who are sitting in custody at the jail.
This book gave me concrete facts and research I can use to speak more confidently with others, as well as tips that have helped me improve my own routine. I love that it does it all in such a small package!
