Don was open minded, friendly and a happy person. I was very glad Maja and Kevin invited him to do the Ceremony. We spent almost four days together. The way Don lives and relates to his old and new relatives were good examples for the future of the young couple and many more.
Only by chance, when we were an a walk, Don told me that his book is beeing published.
I did not understand the full meaning of the title right away. I first linked the word "beatitudes" the second name of my daughter Maja Beate, which is Latin and means "happy".
Only at home I learned that the term relates directly to the eight blessings contained in the "Sermon of the Mount" in the Gospel of Matthew (German: "Bergpredigt"). Then I realised that in the German translation of the bible instead of "Beatitudes" we use "Seligpreisungen", a spiritual term, more related to "blessings" than happiness. This also seems to be a difference between American and German christians in general: you relate protestantism much more to every day life, than we do.
I am looking forward to receiving Don,s 84 pages from Amazon within two weeks.
Since yesterday Jn.4, 2011 I am the proud owner of the book: it is good and easy reading with a clear structure. The personal experiences = examples I especially like, some of the prayers I might skip. I shall pass on the book to Kevin (and Maja), who started their new life in Berlin.
It took me some time to understand what the subtitle "Lessons from the Margins" means. I never really thought of these sides of life and of my own margins!
The reader gains a closer idea to what Christ might have actually meant when he spoke the Beatitudes. Very helpful reading, and especially for someone who may not be directly familiar with such injustices and hardships, which are still so common in most parts of the world.
