Does it work? Yes, it does. I can tell you first hand that when you sit quietly you body is at rest it allows your mind to be at peace. I use this time to talk to my husband, as he is also coloring with me some nights. We chat or we stay quiet. I use the time to think about book review notes I am planning or sometimes nothing at all.
The book starts out with a small chapter about where the images come from and the practice of meditation. I found the images in this book to be very enticing. The images they selected are inspired by the ancient art form of henna tattoos, known as mehndi. This book offers intricate patterns that show mandalas and flowers, (my personal favorite) along with symbols of nature, such as lotus blossoms. elephants and peacocks.
I colored a few to share with you, so I can give you a first look at what the book has to offer. I did not receive an actual copy but only a Kindle version. I printed these pages off.

I would buy this adult coloring book based on what I do know.
Thank you to Netgalley and Greenleaf Book Group and River Grove Books.
I been working with my ill daughter using tangling and/or doodling to help her improve hand eye coordination. I had been looking into Mehndi art as inspiration and was intrigued to see some of those patterns on the front cover. In the introduction, the author discusses that this was an inspiration for the book. I had never thought of coloring the mehndi but that this is wonderful meditation for those of us who are not as artistically inclined but would like to participate in the art form. This is not a huge book but each page has very intricate design patterns that by design must be colored carefully and won't be done in mere minutes. Some of the pieces are free form while retaining the typical look of henna art. Others have wonderful designs made inside more formal shapes (like elephants or hands) that are typical seen in the recent tangling or "zen doodle" movement. I only wish it was a bit longer!
At the beginning, you'll find a short introduction about meditation and the designs included in this book. I think it's a nice touch and as a plus side - it has flower designs on the side, so if you're not into reading it you can simply color those designs and maybe you're eyes will wander to the text part too.
Just after the introduction there's this lovely, intricate flower design. It's amazing! Flowers and leaves swirl around creating patterns that would perfectly fit to embellish some elven creation in Lord of The Rings movies.
There are over ninety pages filled with these lovely pictures that simply cry for you to color them. So why did I cut half of the star from the rating? I've checked the size of the book and it's 8,5 x 8,5 inches (I had to recalculate these to centimeters to know how big it actually is...) and as much as this size is perfect for most of the designs there are some detailed ones that will be hard to color here. I don't think it will be much of a problem for anyone like me :D but I feel like I should write about it anyway. The book I have now on my desk has about 10 x 10 inches and even with that one I have some troubles coloring the tiny images.
All in all, I think this book is worth your time and money. It looks lovely and it will let your mind relax for hours.
I received this copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
My honesty here lies in the fact that I only have a digital copy. I'm unable to tell if there are printed drawings for coloring on both sides or not. To guess, I'd say it very well might be printed on both sides, thus having to choose one picture over the other,HOWEVER, I can't be sure! With Vreative Haven, I can tell it's printed one side only because when you turn the digital page, it's blank, then the next picture comes up. This company may not present it this way though, figuring that if you have digital, you'll copy it by a printer, then they need not have next page blank. This is ONLY reason I gave it 4 stars, because I'm just not sure how physical book is set up.
The pictures are beautiful nature, flowers, prints etc. some are easier than others allowing all people, whether just starting out, or advance, to have pictures to choose from. The pictures I've seen are typical of these adult coloring books, some easy, some harder, but all will turn out very nice once they're filled in with colors chosen by owner of the book.
I'd definitely consider buying this book esp. If I knew for sure, there is only 1 picture printed on each side. The artist that did the drawings made a nice mixture to choose from & they appear high grade quality drawings for adult coloring by either gel pens, colored pencils, or markets ( beware of bleed through though with any pen type used to color) I'd actually give this 4.5 stars
